💭I loved book 1, and I’d liked to say I liked this one more… but I think I liked it for different reasons instead (loving both books equally). The MCs have a completely different feel (which I appreciate tbh. Sometimes in series characters are similar or the stories are almost identical but with new MCs. Especially in mafia series we see this often), and their overall romance has a very different vibe. You have an arranged marriage, academia, he falls first, she has trust issues and is learning to love. Both are in the Irish mafia. It is spicy but not unnecessary so. It is woven into the story appropriately. The book isn’t as dark as book 1 IMO, but still has plenty of dark themes/scenes (checking TWs is definitely recommended for those who need it). I think what got me with books (like book 1) is the way the book is written just completely consumes me emotionally. I am so invested in this story. I hurt with the characters. So to say there is angst? Definitely, and as an angst lover that is an instant win in my book. Especially when done right. Then when you add the way the narrators really slipped into their characters’ roles just really took me into the world the author wrote. There are two narrators (Stacy Gonzales, and J. Hunter Ackerman) and both did so wonderfully narrating this book, and characters. From what I understand these are this author’s only published books, and I can say I am so impressed. I can’t wait to see more from them, and definitely will be watching them! I recommend anyone who also loves this genre to do so as well.

💬 This contemporary romance is book 2 in the Heirs of the Organized. This book does have some darker themes and scenes. The romance in this book is an enemies to lovers. The book has spicy content, with open door spicy scenes. Taryn had dreams to start a life away from the mafia, and they all came crashing down when she was informed she had to marry Liam. While Liam is easy on the eyes, he is also known for making his way through the other women on campus. She wants out of the engagement. Liam just wants her and is willing to put his neck on the line with the mafia for it to happen. Liam is everything Taryn didn’t expect, and now she has to choose between the life she always wanted or love.

... Read moreDiving deeper into Kelly Kilburn’s 'Scandalized,' what truly stands out is the author's skill in blending the dark mafia world with complex emotional growth and romantic tension. From my experience listening to this audiobook, the dual narration offers a unique dimension to the story, making both Liam and Taryn's perspectives resonate more vividly. The chemistry between characters is palpable, especially as Liam pursues Taryn with unwavering determination despite her trust issues and desire to escape mafia life. This enemies-to-lovers trope is executed with nuance, avoiding clichés often found in similar romance series. The arranged marriage plot adds stakes that keep you invested: Taryn’s internal battle between following her dreams and submitting to family demands is relatable in a symbolic way, playing into the theme of finding personal freedom amid constraints. The backdrop of academia contrasts with the brutal reality of the Irish mafia, enriching the setting and offering moments of lighter relief amid dark themes. For those who appreciate well-crafted dark romance mixed with angst and passion, the spicy scenes are tastefully done—integral to character development rather than gratuitous. Trigger warnings are important here, as the book does explore mature themes that may be intense for some listeners. What impressed me most was how emotionally immersive the story is. You don’t just listen; you feel the pain, hope, and growth alongside the protagonists. If you loved the first book in the series, this sequel offers a fresh perspective with new characters but keeps the compelling world intact. Whether you're a fan of mafia romances, intense emotional journeys, or complex character dynamics, 'Scandalized' is a gripping audiobook worth your time.
