1. **Regular Cleaning Schedule** - Establish a routine of twice-weekly cleanings to keep the coop tidy. Regular cleaning prevents the buildup of harmful bacteria and parasites, ensuring a safe environment for your chickens.
2. **Deep Cleaning Practices** - A deep clean once a month can significantly improve the hygiene status of your coop. This includes scrubbing walls and floors with natural cleaners like vinegar and lemon oil, which are effective yet safe for animals.
3. **Bedding Management** - Regularly replacing bedding and adding it to your compost pile not only provides a cleaner space for your hens but also enriches your compost. This practice is crucial for maintaining healthy living conditions.
4. **Pest Control** - Utilizing diatomaceous earth is ideal for keeping pests at bay. Sprinkle it in areas where your hens roam to protect them from unwanted insects.
5. **Fresh Feed & Water** - Ensure feeding and watering stations are cleaned frequently. Scrubbing these items will keep your hens hydrated and nourished, promoting better egg production.
By adhering to these tips, your chickens will thrive, resulting in delicious, healthy eggs straight from your backyard!
