Review : Lovely Bad Things

Okay, so I’m landing this one at 3 stars. It was good—solid storyline, interesting plot, nothing I’d call bad at all. But… it just didn’t grab me in that “oh my gosh I can’t stop reading” kind of way. You know what I mean?

I didn’t DNF, but I did end up going with the audiobook, and honestly? That probably helped me finish it. The narrators were phenomenal—definitely elevated the experience. Still, the actual storyline was a little tough for me to fully latch onto.

Overall, I liked it, I enjoyed it, but I’m not exactly sprinting to pick up the sequel. If you’re into supernatural/paranormal thrillers with a dark romance twist, this one could totally be your vibe. Just wasn’t a top-tier favorite for me.

... Read moreLovely Bad Things integrates supernatural and paranormal thriller elements alongside dark romance, creating a unique niche for readers interested in these genres. The appeal of such stories often lies in their ability to combine suspense with emotional and romantic complexity, adding depth to the plot. Paranormal thrillers typically feature elements like ghosts, demons, or other supernatural beings, while dark romance introduces intense, often dangerous romantic dynamics that challenge characters emotionally and morally. Audiobooks can significantly enhance the reading experience for such genres, as the narrator’s tone, pace, and emotion effectively bring characters and plots to life. In this case, the narrators were noted as phenomenal, elevating the storytelling and helping listeners engage more deeply, especially if the plot or pacing feels challenging when reading the text alone. While this particular review rated Lovely Bad Things at 3 stars — indicating it was good but not a gripping, can't-put-it-down read — it highlights that the book still has solid storytelling and an interesting plot. Readers who appreciate supernatural themes combined with romance might find the book aligns with their preferences, even if it does not reach the top tier of the genre. For those interested in further exploring the genre, similar books to consider include titles like 'The Cruel Prince' by Holly Black, which marries dark fantasy and romance, or 'Carrie' by Stephen King, blending supernatural suspense with personal drama. Fans of audiobooks will benefit from seeking editions with skilled narrators who can convey the emotional intensity and eerie atmosphere essential for paranormal thrillers. In summary, Lovely Bad Things is recommended for readers who enjoy supernatural and dark romantic plots and who might find audiobook versions particularly rewarding. Its moderate pacing and storytelling style offer a solid addition to paranormal thriller collections, even if it doesn't become an all-time favorite.
