Itachi Uchiha!

Hey fellow anime art lovers! I wanted to share a bit more about my process for creating this Itachi Uchiha drawing you see. Like many of you, Itachi's story in Naruto deeply moved me. He truly was the outcast protecting something dear, and his complex character makes him an incredible subject for art. This piece was my way of honoring his legacy, focusing on that calm, thoughtful expression he often carried, even amidst his tragic burden. When I start any fanart, it always begins with a detailed line art sketch. For Itachi, I spent a lot of time getting his pose and facial features just right, trying to capture that enigmatic gaze. I find that using good reference images is key here – whether it’s official art or manga panels, they help nail the character's unique design, especially iconic elements like his Akatsuki cloak and those piercing Sharingan eyes. For this specific piece, I first laid down a rough sketch on gray paper, which you might have seen in the initial stages. It helps to map out proportions before committing to a cleaner line drawing. Once the sketch was solid, I moved onto the coloring process. This is where the magic really happens! I primarily used a combination of vibrant marker and color pencils to bring Itachi to life. My go-to markers are often Copic, as they blend beautifully, allowing for smooth transitions on his Akatsuki cloak and skin tones. For the more intricate details and to add depth, I layered with high-quality color pencils like Polychromos and Faber-Castell. These pencils are fantastic for adding texture, sharpening edges, and really making the reds of his Sharingan pop. Getting that perfect blending and shading around his face and hair took some patience, but it’s so rewarding to see the dimensions come alive. I also wanted to create an atmospheric background that complemented Itachi's persona. The red moon and crows are symbolic elements often associated with him, representing his clan's fate and his powerful abilities. Using purples and deep reds for the background helped create a moody, mysterious vibe that I felt suited his character perfectly. It’s not just about drawing the character, but also about building the world around him to tell a complete visual story. One of the challenges and joys of drawing Itachi is portraying his complex emotions. I aimed for a thoughtful expression, one that hints at his inner turmoil and strength. Focusing on the slight tilt of his head, the set of his mouth, and especially the intensity of his eyes can convey so much. Seeing this drawing come together, from that initial sketch to the final colored piece, was such a fulfilling experience.
