老猫の性格や行動について改めて考えると、シニア猫ならではの特徴が多く見られます。私も多くの猫と暮らしてきましたが、特にプライドが高い雄猫は、自分のペースを大切にし、無理に接近されるとストレスを感じやすい傾向があります。 今回紹介の猫のように、飼い主が一定の距離を保つことで安心して過ごせる場合も多いですね。また、食事中は周囲の状況に敏感で、見られていると食べないというのは警戒心の表れ。これは外敵から食事を守る本能の一種ともいわれています。 食事の好みもそれぞれ個性があり、市販の餌で満足しない猫もいます。今回の猫は残りものの刺し身や銀のスプーン（おそらく「銀のスプーン」ブランドのキャットフード）を好み、それ以外は受け付けないことも。高齢になると味覚や嗅覚が変わって好みも変わりやすいので、飼い主が観察しながら好みに合わせて食事を用意することが重要です。 また、高齢猫は消化機能や健康面のケアも必要になるため、合わせて動物病院での定期検診などもおすすめします。こうした細かな気配りが、猫のQOL（生活の質）を維持し、長く元気に過ごせる秘訣です。 私個人 の経験では、猫のペースを尊重しながら、食事の好みや行動の変化を日々観察することが、飼い主と猫の信頼関係を深める上でとても大切だと感じています。皆さんも老猫の個性を理解して、快適な毎日をサポートしてあげてくださいね。
