This Week in Miss Jamie’s Class
This week is brought to you by the letter M for moon as in the full moon this week had my students acting abnormal and rather shall I say…quiet. We had a jam packed week and are all ready for some fun on Monday!
This week’s focus on the letter M truly brought a memorable and engaging experience for the students, especially with the full moon adding a unique twist to classroom dynamics. It’s interesting how natural phenomena like a full moon can subtly influence student behavior, often making them quieter or more contemplative. Apart from regular lessons, the class explored current events such as the World Athletics Championships. Incorporating real-world news helps students connect what they learn with global contexts, enhancing their understanding of sports, geography, and international cooperation. Teaching kids about the rules and significance of track and field events encourages appreciation for athletics and healthy competition. An exciting part of the week was the deep dive into the United States Constitution. Students have become adept at understanding constitutional rights and how these apply to citizenship and governance. Through interactive resources like illustrated books and discussions, students gain a stronger civic awareness which is essential in special education settings. Practical math skills were also honed using place value blocks, fostering numerical literacy in a hands-on manner. This tactile approach helps students grasp foundational math concepts effectively. To celebrate the week’s achievements, students crafted special lemonade and mango tea, a refreshing treat that also promoted hospitality and teamwork. Such activities not only teach nutrition and creativity but also build a positive classroom community. Bringing together academic lessons, current events, and enjoyable projects, Miss Jamie’s class offers an inspiring model for blending education with engagement, especially in special education environments. This holistic approach ensures students are both challenged and supported, preparing them for continued learning and growth.
