Nunca confíes en nadie

... Read moreWhen my grandfather first shared that poignant wisdom – 'never lend your umbrella to someone who only remembers you when it rains' – I admit, I was too young to grasp its full weight. It sounded like a beautiful, poetic phrase, nothing more. But as life unfolded, its true meaning became startlingly clear, echoing the sentiment of 'deeply never trust anyone.' I started noticing patterns. There are indeed people who only seem to appear when their world is crumbling, when they're caught in a storm and need shelter. They seek you out desperately, their calls and messages frequent, their gratitude seemingly boundless. They need your support, your advice, your resources – your 'umbrella.' And in those moments, it's easy to feel like a vital part of their lives. However, the real test comes when the 'sun shines' again. When their storm passes, when their crisis abates, suddenly, the phone calls stop. The messages dwindle. It's as if their memory of you, and your helping hand, fades with the grey clouds. It’s a harsh realization, isn't it? To go from being their refuge to merely a forgotten name. This isn't about fostering cynicism, but rather cultivating discernment. It’s about understanding human nature and protecting your energy and emotional well-being. What does 'deeply never trust anyone' truly mean in practice? For me, it doesn't mean building walls so high that no one can ever get in. Instead, it means being acutely aware of people's motivations and actions, not just their words. It means understanding that while some relationships are built on genuine reciprocity, others are purely transactional. You learn to distinguish between those who genuinely care and those who view you as a stepping stone or a temporary convenience. I've learned to observe who shows up not just when I have something to offer, but also when I need an 'umbrella' myself. Who celebrates my triumphs as enthusiastically as they comfort my losses? Who remembers my name not just when they're in need, but simply because they care? This discernment allows me to invest my trust wisely, reserving my deepest faith for those who prove their loyalty and care through consistent action, not just desperate pleas. It's a journey of self-preservation and understanding the nuanced dance of human connection, ensuring that while I may offer help, I do so with open eyes, knowing that true trust is a rare and precious gift.
