Many people arrested during demonstrations didn't ask for such experiences—they simply sought to voice their opinions or stand against policies they find unjust. The use of detention centers and the targeting of protesters raise serious questions about civil liberties and human rights. What’s even more concerning is how freedom of speech is seemingly under attack when people peacefully protest and yet face repercussions. The notion of ICE going “schoolhouse to house” evokes the fear and anxiety felt by communities under constant surveillance or threat. This environment can suppress open dialogue and diminish trust in institutions meant to protect citizens. In my experience attending local rallies, it's clear that many share these feelings of being unheard and unfairly treated. It’s important to continue raising awareness, supporting those affected, and advocating for reforms that respect human rights and uphold the right to free speech without retaliation or fear of detention. Collective voices matter more than ever in challenging unjust systems and fostering equity and justice in our communities.
