i cannot wait to graduate 😭👩‍🎓

this is just going to be a rant because i’ve had enough of university and studying LOL

i’ve always been a super average student (some would say above average because i peaked in jc, well i did IB at SJI and did really well but also it was covid)🤣 i got into all 3 top unis in singapore and chose smu since i was going to accounting/finance and also because i live super near! im graduating Dec 2026 because i took LOA twice and honestly, i CANNOT WAIT to get out of studying.

here are some reasons why:

1. my results don’t reflect how hard i study

i genuinely try really hard to do well. i attend class, revise consistently, and try to stay on top of everything. but somehow my results rarely reflect the amount of effort i put in. it can be quite frustrating and so demoralising when you feel like you’re doing all the “right” things but the grades still don’t show it.

2. “flexible time” in university isn’t really flexible

people always say uni schedules are flexible, but mentally it doesn’t feel that way at all. my mind is almost always on studying. even when i’m out with friends or spending time with family, there’s always this feeling that i should be revising or preparing for something.

3. staying consistent actually takes a lot of time

i don’t like letting work or content pile up, so i usually review my lectures every week after class. but when you’re taking 4–5 difficult modules every semester, being consistent like that takes up a lot more time than people realise. so even though uni looks flexible from the outside, it sometimes feels like you’re always studying.

4. there is always something coming up…. midterms, group projects, presentations, finals… once one thing ends, the next thing starts almost immediately. it never ends😭 so during the semester im like not even living tbh LOL like barely

5. working > studying 😬 i know people complain about 9–5 jobs, and i know working life can be stressful too, but at least when work ends, it ends. evenings and weekends are actually yours. right now it feels like studying follows you everywhere

anyway… just counting down to dec 2026 😭

anyone else feeling this way or is it just me 🥲

... Read moreFrom my own experience and talks with fellow students, the university grind can often feel like a never-ending loop—especially when juggling difficult modules like accounting. One struggle I can relate to is how the effort-to-results balance isn’t always fair. No matter how consistently you prepare and push yourself, it sometimes feels like grades don’t truly capture your hard work. This can be incredibly disheartening and impact motivation. Another thing that many don’t realize about flexible university schedules is that flexibility is mostly a myth when it comes to mental space. Even during downtime or social occasions, the pressure to keep catching up or prepare for upcoming deadlines lingers constantly. That blurry boundary between study and life can cause burnout. Accounting modules, in particular, are notoriously challenging. They demand intense focus and can be very dense, making it hard to maintain consistency without feeling overwhelmed. Group projects, presentations, and midterms don’t offer much respite, creating a cycle where as soon as one stressor ends, another is right around the corner. Interestingly, many students feel that transitioning into full-time working life might actually offer more balance. While jobs bring their own stresses, there tends to be a clearer separation between work hours and personal time, allowing evenings and weekends to truly be free. If you’re also feeling the weight of constant studying and dreaming of your graduation day, know that you’re not alone. Sharing these real talks helps build a support network that makes the university journey a little less isolating. Remember, it’s okay to vent, take breaks, and find strategies that work best for your mental well-being amidst all the chaos.

Personally don’t understand the rush to graduate
Amid all the graduation talk recently, I just felt like posting this- Also: I sometimes sense an air of judgement when I say I may need to do year 5? Even in 2026, I guess some stigma still exists… Feel free to leave your thoughts here~ Might make a part 2!

Fresh grads! Ask your interviewer these 5 qns ✅
I used to dread the question: “Do you have any questions for me?” My mind would turn blank and I would just stare at the interviewer… Not a very good move I always thought that hearing this question meant the interview was ending, until I realised it’s actually one of the most important parts. 💡

How I missed my SUSS application 🤡
I thought I’d just peek at the application form to see what kind of info they needed and officially apply another day. I keyed in random details, didn’t even click “save form,” and just closed the tab thinking it wouldn’t matter. Turns out… it saved anyway. That one small action ended up cost
