Photos I didn’t post and why

2024/3/23 Edited to

... Read moreWe all do it – scroll through our camera roll, looking for that perfect shot to share. But what about all the photos that don't quite make the cut? I've been there, and I've got a whole collection of 'unposted' moments that perfectly capture what life is really like behind the curated feed. It's easy to get caught up in the pressure to present a flawless image online. Every picture needs to have ideal 'lighting,' a flattering angle, and an 'outfit' that's on point. Sometimes, I'll take a 'mirror selfie' and think, 'This 'outfit was great,' but then I'll look at the 'photo itself' and realize it just doesn't have that 'for the gram' sparkle. Maybe my 'face' looked a bit off, or the background wasn't aesthetic enough. It’s a common dilemma – wanting to share, but knowing some shots just aren't quite ready for public consumption. But here's the thing: those 'random weird pictures' or the ones that aren't perfectly polished are often the most authentic. They capture genuine moments, even if they're not picture-perfect. I've learned to appreciate these 'unposted pics' not as failures, but as raw snippets of my life. They tell a story that goes beyond likes and comments. They're a personal diary, a collection of memories that don't need external validation to be valuable. Embracing these 'not-for-the-gram' moments means finding beauty in imperfection and reminding myself that not every experience needs to be shared with the world. Sometimes, the decision not to post isn't even about the photo's technical quality. It might be a 'cute fit' but the vibe just isn't right for my feed at that moment. Or perhaps it's a silly 'mirror selfie' that's more for my own amusement than for public display. There's a quiet strength in curating your online presence while still holding onto private, unfiltered moments. It takes a certain confidence to say, 'This one's just for me.' I believe there's a powerful message in that – that our lives are rich and full, even the parts that aren't broadcast. So next time you're sifting through your camera roll, remember that your 'unposted photos' are just as much a part of your story, if not more so, than the ones that go viral. They are the true, unfiltered reflections of your journey.

One thing about me: I am SO hard on myself. Although these pictures are beautiful, there’s a ton of things I personally see and don’t like about myself. I know my kids would look back when they’re older and be thankful for these photos but I just see myself and cringe a little. I do like these ph
