hair tutorial
You’ll Need:
• Rat-tail comb (for parting)
• Hair elastics (preferably small and black or matching your hair)
• Bobby pins (lots!)
• Hair gel or styling cream (for sleekness)
• Decorative pins (like the pearls in the photo)
Step 1: Prep and Part
1. Start with clean, detangled hair. Apply a light gel or smoothing cream for shine and control.
2. Using the rat-tail comb, create a precise center part from your forehead to the nape of your neck, dividing your hair into two equal sections.
3. Clip one side away while you work on the other.
Step 2: Base Braids
1. Take one section (left or right). Comb it smooth and secure into a tight ponytail at the back of your head, near the middle height of your ear. Do the same on the other side.
2. From each ponytail, divide the hair into two or three smaller sections depending on thickness.
3. Braid each section into simple three-strand braids all the way down. Secure with small elastics.
Step 3: Form the Buns
1. Take one of the braids from the ponytail and begin wrapping it in a circular motion around the base of the ponytail to form a bun.
2. Pin it down securely with bobby pins.
3. Do the same with the other braid(s), layering them neatly so they form a full, textured braided bun.
• Leave one braid hanging free from each side (this is how the style has the long braids down the back).
Step 4: Style and Secure
1. Smooth down any flyaways with gel or hairspray for that sleek finish.
2. Add decorative pins (like pearls) around the buns for embellishment. In the photo, the pearls are pinned in where the braids wrap around.
Step 5: Final Touch
• Make sure both buns are even in height and placement.
• Adjust the hanging braids so they fall straight and neat down the back.
