... Read moreRaising a unique breed mix like Toffee, my bull terrier boxer husky, has been an incredible adventure! When I first adopted him and his brother, I knew I was in for something special, but I didn't fully realize just how much personality would come in one furry package. Seeing them grow from tiny puppies, especially Toffee with his striking blue eyes and distinctive white and tan fur, has been a joy every day. The journey from those early 'Pictures of my dog growing up Pt. I' moments to now has been truly heartwarming.
One of the most fascinating parts is observing how the traits from his different parent breeds show up. From the Husky, Toffee definitely gets his gorgeous blue eyes and that independent streak – sometimes he acts like he's got his own agenda, which can be both amusing and a challenge during training! We’ve worked a lot on recall and basic commands, and consistency is key with these smart, sometimes stubborn, pups. The Boxer in him brings that boundless energy and playfulness. He loves to wrestle with his brother and zoom around the yard, making every day an active one. And then there's the Bull Terrier influence, which I believe contributes to his strong, loyal nature and that deep, resonant bark he's developed. It really does make people pause, but it's just his way of saying hello or guarding his territory! Managing that bark has involved positive reinforcement and ensuring he gets plenty of mental and physical stimulation. A tired Toffee is often a quiet Toffee!
Caring for a large, energetic mix like Toffee means being prepared for specific needs. His diet is crucial; we opt for high-quality dog food to support his muscle development and energy levels, keeping his white and tan coat glossy. Exercise is non-negotiable – daily walks, playtime in the park, and even some agility games help him burn off steam and keep him happy. Given his husky heritage, he can be prone to shedding, so regular brushing is part of our routine to keep his coat healthy and minimize fur around the house. We've even moved to a new city together, and helping him adapt to new walking routes and dog parks was another fun challenge, ensuring he felt secure and loved in his new surroundings.
Socialization from a young age was also really important, especially with his independent temperament. Exposing him to different people, places, and other friendly dogs helped him become a well-adjusted companion, despite his initial wariness. He's learned to navigate new environments with confidence and shows a surprising gentleness with smaller pets we meet.
The best part about having a bull terrier boxer husky mix is the constant surprise and the deep bond we share. No two days are exactly alike, and his unique blend of intelligence, playfulness, and loyalty makes him an irreplaceable member of our family. Watching him go from a tiny puppy exploring the world to the confident, loving dog he is today has been the most rewarding experience. If you’re considering an 'imblue husky' looking mix or any unique mixed breed, be ready for an adventure filled with love, laughter, and a whole lot of personality! They truly bring so much joy into our lives, and every milestone is a celebration.
