Mercy When You’re “Not There Yet”

If you’re not “there yet,” mercy reminds you:

You’re still becoming, and God isn’t finished.

“And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬

Growth isn’t instant—it’s intentional.

Progress counts, even when it’s slow.

Declaration day 39 of 72:

I am a work in progress, embraced by God’s mercy.

Where do you see small growth in your life right now?

2/11 Edited to

... Read moreSometimes, when we feel we haven't reached our goals or aren't where we want to be, it's easy to become discouraged. What I’ve learned through my own experiences is that growth isn't about instant transformation but about consistent, intentional progress. The phrase "You're not behind—you're becoming" truly resonates with me because it shifts the focus from judgment to hope. I remember a time when my own development felt painstakingly slow, and I wondered if I'd ever get "there." However, reflecting on Philippians 1:6 helped me realize that the process itself has value, and each small step is part of a bigger work being perfected over time. This journey is not about perfection but about progress, even if it's steady and at times slow. Practicing daily mercy towards ourselves encourages patience and kindness in moments when self-criticism tries to take the lead. When we accept that growth is a work in progress, we open ourselves to learning and healing. Celebrating small victories, no matter how minor, builds momentum and reminds us that we're moving forward. I also find that joining communities, whether online or in person, that support themes like #MercyChallenge and #ProgressNotPerfection can be incredibly motivating. Sharing stories and encouragement fosters a culture of grace that acknowledges our imperfect but hopeful journey. In essence, embracing mercy when you're "not there yet" means recognizing that every step, no matter how small, is a part of becoming the person you’re meant to be. Trusting that this ongoing work is guided and perfected over time has been a comforting and empowering realization in my life.

God's Mercy vs. God's Grace
Sometimes we hear the words mercy and grace used interchangeably, but they reveal two different and beautiful parts of God’s heart. Mercy is when God does not give us the punishment we deserve. We fall short, we make mistakes, we wander… yet God meets us with compassion instead of condemnation.
