Winter tips in Japan!❄️

2/17 Edited to

... Read moreTraveling to Japan during the winter season can be a magical experience, but it requires careful preparation to enjoy it safely and comfortably. From personal experience, one crucial tip is definitely wearing non-slip shoes. Many areas across Japan become extremely icy during winter, especially early in the morning or late at night, and having the right footwear can prevent serious falls and injuries. Another key aspect of winter travel in Japan is dressing in layers. Japanese homes and shops tend to be heated indoors, so bulky clothing can become uncomfortable once inside. Wearing thin, warm layers allows easy adjustment to changing temperatures throughout the day—from the freezing outdoors to cozy interiors. For skiing enthusiasts, heading to lesser-known ski resorts beyond popular destinations like Hakuba or Niseko offers a more relaxed and authentic experience. These smaller resorts often have fewer crowds, lower prices, and beautiful untouched powder. However, safety should always come first; wearing a helmet is highly recommended even if it isn’t fashionable. Helmets provide crucial protection and many resorts strongly advise or require them. Staying connected is vital, especially if you venture off the beaten path. I highly recommend getting a Japanese eSIM or a reliable data plan before your trip. This prevents being stranded without internet access, which can be problematic when using navigation apps or translating signs. Using an eSIM like Eva eSim simplifies connectivity without needing physical SIM cards and works perfectly for short to medium stays. Finally, be mindful of Japan’s climate and local customs. The cold can be more intense than expected due to humidity, so hydration and skin care are important. Embracing these winter travel tips will help you enjoy the dazzling seasonal landscapes and festivities across Japan safely and comfortably.
