Just got back from Bay Street Park in Texas City (4.6 ⭐ on Google Maps), and it’s a gem worth visiting. The park’s got wide-open fields for sports, shaded playgrounds for the kids, and plenty of walking trails that wind around the bayou. Water birds were everywhere — pelicans, egrets, herons — which makes it a perfect spot if you like nature mixed with history. Scattered around are Texas Historical Commission markers telling stories about everything from Stephen F. Austin’s dream of Austínia, to Guy Bryan’s Old Bay Lake Ranch, to the U.S. Army camp and First Aero Squadron that trained here in 1913.
It’s about 45 acres and feels like a mix of recreation and Texas heritage all in one place. We shot some video while exploring, and we’ll upload that later so y’all can see more of the trails, markers, and bay views. This spot combines a relaxing day outdoors with a deep dive into Texas history — definitely worth the trip if you’re in the area.
