Raised in poverty and blinded as a child, Willie Johnson recorded haunting gospel-blues songs in the 1920s that would later inspire artists like Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, and countless others. His music was so powerful that one of his recordings was sent into space aboard the Voyager Golden Record as a representation of humanity itself.
