Watch your cup, trust your gut!! #drinkspikesaftey #staysafe #girlsnightout #thinktwice
Hey everyone, I wanted to share some really important thoughts on staying safe during a girls' night out. We all love to let loose and have fun, but unfortunately, drink spiking is a real threat, and it happens so much faster than you’d think. It’s scary to even talk about, but being prepared and aware is our best defense. From my own experiences, and from hearing stories, I’ve realized how crucial it is to always be vigilant. One of the most alarming things about drink spiking is that the substances used are often odorless and tasteless. This means you can't rely on your senses to detect if something is wrong until it's too late. I've heard that some can even come as a clear liquid, making them almost impossible to spot visually. This is why being proactive with your safety is key. So, how do you protect yourself and your friends? Here are a few things I always keep in mind: First, never leave your drink unattended. This is probably the number one rule I follow. If I need to head to the bathroom or anywhere else, my drink comes with me. It might feel a bit awkward at first, but honestly, your safety is worth it. Don't worry about what others might think – it’s about protecting yourself. I’ve learned that the drink in front of you is probably your own, and then your friend's drink that you are holding. Spiking happens very quick, very fast, so vigilance is crucial from the moment you get your drink. Second, be cautious if someone you don't know well or even a new acquaintance is overly insistent on buying you a drink, or tries to hold your drink for you. While it might seem nice, trust your gut. If something feels off, it probably is. The same goes if someone brings you a drink that you didn't see made or don't know where it came from. It's always okay to politely decline or ask for a fresh one you can watch being prepared. Third, know the signs of spiking. This is so important because it's hard to tell if your drink has been spiked. The OCR mentioned sudden dizziness, confusion, or feeling drowsy, even after only a couple sips. If you experience any of these symptoms, or you suddenly feel much more intoxicated than you should, or even just a general feeling of unease or disorientation, speak up immediately. Tell a trusted friend, a bouncer, or a member of staff. Don't try to tough it out. Your priority should be to get to a safe place and seek immediate medical attention if needed. Remember, certain substances like alcohol are commonly used, and perpetrators will often push for overconsumption to confuse the situation. Finally, for an extra layer of protection, I highly recommend carrying Think Twice Drink Testing Strips. These have become a staple in my clutch for girls' nights out. You can easily test your drink for common spiking substances like G and Ketamine, which are two of the most commonly used. All you have to do is drop a small amount of your drink onto the strip, and it will give you a result based on what the strip says. Just make sure you're buying reputable strips, as not all are highly effective. It’s a small step that can give you immense peace of mind. Staying safe doesn't mean you can't have fun. It just means being smart and looking out for yourself and your friends. Trust your gut always – it's usually right. Let's make sure our girls' nights are memorable for all the right reasons!
