The Unaesthetic Life Chose Me

I just have to share this with you, all. I saw this super cute spring porch refresh from some influencer and I loved it. I was like perfect, I’m gonna do this cute DIY. It’ll be cheap. It’ll be easy. No! It was not cheap. It was not easy. And mine does not look like hers not even close 😂. I found the perfect planters on Amazon expensive as heck, but I got them. I looked everywhere for fake hydrangeas. Why are they so expensive? Absolutely insane! Cheapest I could find was on SHEIN and I spent almost $200 because each one of these planters needed 30 of these guys in them. I thought 30 was enough in the first place ordered them and had to order another 30. Then, I didn’t like my black-and-white plaid rug underneath my mat, so I had to buy a new one of those. This became a $400 project just like that. Who does that? Who spends $400 for some things on their porch? I am absolutely insane! And of course it was not easy. I am not a crafty person, no matter how badly I want to be and I get so overwhelmed and frustrated when things don’t go well. In the video, the lady just stabbed these little flower sticks through some boxes easy peasy! First of all finding boxes that fit was nearly impossible so we had to cut them to make them fit, and then these flower sticks don’t just easily go through the cardboard. It was intense getting them in there. I was sweating and cursing and my fingers hurt y’all! So I finally, 3 weeks later, get it all together! Ahhh yay it’s done. Wahhh Wahh… My porch is stained and dirty, I don’t have it in me to care enough to do anything about it. A bit of an overpriced fail. But wait there is more. I went to take a picture of my finished project and come back inside where it’s not raining to realize my big ol self in the reflection of my door. So I had to go back out and retake it 😂

I have this desire to have an aesthetically, pleasing life and an aesthetically pleasing house and for the life of me it’s just not going to happen. I have three kids, I work way too much and no matter how hard I try I can’t keep my house, tidy or things off my counters! No matter how hard I try the unaesthetic life has chosen me. #unaesthetic#reallifeaesthetic #reallifeathome #front porch #porchlife #embracevulnerability #unfiltered #Lemon8Diary #shareyourthoughts #whatdidido

... Read moreThe pursuit of an aesthetically pleasing life can be overwhelming, especially for parents juggling work and home responsibilities. It's common to feel pressured by social media influencers who showcase flawless DIY projects. However, these experiences remind us that perfection is not the goal. Embracing the real, messy aspects of life can be liberating. Like many, I found that despite spending a considerable amount on my porch refresh, the outcome didn't match my vision. I struggled with the DIY process and felt frustrated by the simpler approaches presented online. The beauty of sharing our stories lies in the authenticity we bring to the table. We often learn from these imperfect experiences, and acknowledging our struggles can help foster a supportive community. If you're in a similar boat, remember you're not alone. Finding ways to simplify your living space or create a more organized environment can offer tangible benefits over time. Consider involving your kids in small home projects, making it a fun family bonding experience while sharing responsibilities. Ultimately, it's our collective 'unaesthetic' journeys that connect us and encourage conversation around the pressures of modern life. So, as we navigate our unique chaos, let’s embrace the vulnerability and imperfection that shapes our homes and lives.

We need to start normalizing the unaesthetic side. My anxiety goes through the roof when I’m not feeling my house looks Instagram perfect. Love the way this looks by the way.
