Interestingly, whiskers are connected to nerve endings and the brain, making them extremely sensitive. That’s why trimming a cat’s whiskers can be harmful and distressing to the animal. Other animals, such as seals, rodents, and even some insects, also benefit from whiskers. For example, seals use them underwater to detect fish and navigate murky environments. Understanding the function of whiskers enriches our appreciation for these small but vital sensory organs. It also helps pet owners provide better care by avoiding harm to their cat's whiskers and respecting their natural abilities.
