Today was my first day in the gym and it almost became my last. 😭
I don’t like a bunch of people around me, and not knowing what I’m doing had me feeling crazy. I just know I looked silly in there.
Then reality hit me 🥴 I’ll call somebody a weak a🥱 b🥱 quick and here I am struggling to lift 25 pounds. My form trash, no trainer, and I still gotta do hair so being sore is always on my mind.
I even got a little frustrated with my husband 🥴😭 because I expected him to know everything but he just trying to figure it out just like me.
Last year was about cutting weight, this year is about building.
So yeah we left 😕 but we’ll be back tomorrow trying again. 💪🏾
Starting a new fitness journey can truly feel overwhelming, especially when stepping into a gym for the very first time. I remember walking into the gym, surrounded by seasoned exercisers, and feeling completely out of place. It’s normal to feel intimidated or embarrassed when you’re unfamiliar with the equipment and the workout routines. However, reminding myself that growth is embarrassing at first helped me keep going. Like the saying goes, “The first day humbles you. The next days build you.” One of the biggest challenges I faced was dealing with the physical soreness after the session, especially when balancing daily routines like having to style my hair or managing work. The key lesson I learned is that soreness means progress—we’re pushing our muscles beyond their comfort zone to build new strength. Another thing that helped was realizing that even those who seem confident at the gym were once beginners themselves. If you’re like me and dislike crowds, try going during off-peak hours or find a quiet corner where you feel less self-conscious. Watching online tutorials or asking for help from gym staff can also improve your form and reduce frustration. What really stood out to me was needing patience—not just with my body but with others too, including my workout partner. It’s easy to expect others to have all the answers, but often everyone is figuring it out in their own way. Sharing this experience with my husband made it less daunting. Lastly, setting realistic goals helps maintain motivation. After focusing on weight loss last year, I’m now shifting to strength building. Focusing on small daily improvements keeps the journey sustainable and rewarding. Remember, everyone starts somewhere—and each visit to the gym is another step forward on the path to strength and confidence.
