Rise Above
Have you ever felt like an invisible wall was holding you back, even when you knew you were capable of so much more? For years, I struggled with this feeling, trapped by internal whispers like, ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I’ll never achieve that.’ These weren’t external barriers; they were all in my head – my limiting beliefs. Simply put, limiting beliefs are assumptions or convictions you hold to be true about yourself, others, or the world, which restrict you in some way. They often stem from past experiences, childhood messages, or societal norms, whispering doubts and telling you what you can’t do, rather than what you *can*. My journey to RISE ABOVE these mental chains began when I realized how much they were impacting my life. I'd shy away from new opportunities, second-guess my decisions, and constantly compare myself to others. One of my biggest limiting beliefs was, 'I'm not creative enough.' I'd always wanted to try painting, but that voice kept me from even buying a brush. To identify your own, start paying attention to your internal dialogue. What negative statements do you frequently tell yourself? What goals do you avoid pursuing because of a 'feeling' that you'll fail? Journaling can be incredibly powerful here; just let your thoughts flow and look for recurring themes. Once you've identified them, the next crucial step is to challenge them. For my 'not creative enough' belief, I started asking myself: ‘Is this truly a fact, or just an assumption?’ ‘What evidence do I have that this is true?’ Usually, there’s little concrete evidence. Then, I’d look for counter-evidence: ‘When have I been creative in a small way, even if it wasn't painting?’ ‘What if I just tried, without expecting perfection?’ Reframing is also key. Instead of 'I'm not good enough,' try 'I'm learning and growing every day.' Or 'I can't do this' becomes 'I haven't mastered this *yet*.' Challenging them cognitively is a great start, but real change happens when you take action despite the fear. For me, I finally bought a small set of watercolors. My first attempts were, as expected, not masterpieces! But the act of doing it, of proving that the belief didn't have to control me, was incredibly liberating. Each small step, each time I pushed past that inner voice, made it weaker. It's about building new neural pathways and creating new, empowering beliefs. Celebrate small victories. Surround yourself with people who uplift you and believe in your potential. Practice self-compassion, as this is a process, not a one-time fix. The impact on my life has been profound. I've not only embraced painting but also started a small content creation project, something I never would have dreamed of before. I feel more confident, resilient, and genuinely happier. Learning to RISE ABOVE my limiting beliefs wasn't easy, but it was the most important work I've ever done. It allowed me to unlock potential I didn't even know I had. If you're reading this and resonating with the struggle, know that you're not alone. You have the power within you to break free from these self-imposed limitations. Start small, be kind to yourself, and remember that your potential is limitless once you decide to RISE ABOVE what you think you can't do.
