Almost 2 Years Loc’d🤎

I’ll be 2 years loc’d in April. Definitely ready for a dye job because my color has faded drastically unfortunately 🙄

They are slightly getting some weight to them but I definitely feel it when they are wet but my hair dries fast so it doesn’t last long.

The first 6-8 months I lowkey felt bald headed because of the strinkage was OD but my length is finally starting to come back 😂

... Read moreReflecting on reaching the 'almost 2 years loc'd' milestone, it's truly a journey of patience, self-discovery, and embracing natural beauty. Looking back, those first 6-8 months felt like a blur of shrinkage where I lowkey felt bald-headed, but seeing my length finally start to come back makes all the waiting worth it. It got me thinking about the broader loc community, especially when I see questions pop up about starting locs for younger ones, like 'kids with dreadlocks.' It's a beautiful decision for a child, but it definitely comes with its own set of considerations for parents. Just like my own experience, the initial phase for kids' locs will also involve shrinkage. Their hair will coil up as it begins to lock, and it can sometimes look shorter than it is. Managing expectations and understanding that this is a normal part of the process is key. It's a testament to the hair's natural texture, and patience is your best friend here, just as it was for me waiting for my length to return. When it comes to maintenance for children with locs, gentle care is paramount. Unlike my current thoughts of a dye job because my color has faded, for kids, the focus should almost entirely be on hydration and cleanliness. Use mild, residue-free shampoos to avoid buildup, and make sure to rinse thoroughly. Lightweight oils or rosewater sprays can help keep their scalp and locs moisturized without making them heavy. Their locs will also feel weighty when wet, just like mine, so ensure they dry thoroughly to prevent mildew or discomfort. Protective styling is also super important for kids. Simple styles like two-strand twists, braids, or ponytails can keep their locs neat and prevent unnecessary pulling or snagging during playtime. Sleeping with a satin bonnet or pillowcase is a non-negotiable to protect their locs from frizz and breakage, ensuring their locs thrive as they grow. The journey to 'almost 2 years loc'd' for a child will be filled with growth spurts and changes, and celebrating each phase helps them love their unique hair. Ultimately, the loc journey, whether for an adult or a child, is about embracing natural hair in its most authentic form. It teaches patience, consistent care, and a deep appreciation for growth over time. While my journey is my own, the principles of nurturing healthy locs and understanding their process are universal. For parents considering locs for their children, it's an incredibly rewarding path that fosters self-acceptance and showcases the beauty of their heritage.

Loc Journey (3C hair)
January 16th makes 2 years loc’d. I recently dyed my hair blonde after not coloring my hair since 2018. All of my hair was virgin hair because I cut it all off after I dyed it in 2018. I used to grow and cut my hair often. I decided I would grow it out after the last time I cut it and decided to lo
