Postpartum anxiety

One of the most helpful approaches is getting outside every day, even if it's just for a brief five-minute walk with my children. Fresh air and a change of scenery provide a calming effect and help shift my focus away from anxious thoughts. I also learned to give myself permission not to have a perfectly tidy home. Letting the house be messy reduces the overwhelming pressure to "do it all" and allows me to prioritize what truly matters: my family's well-being. Staying off Google and social media during the middle of the night feeds has been crucial. When anxiety is high, scrolling through negative information or feeling the weight of comparison only worsens my stress. Instead, I choose comforting shows like Gilmore Girls to stay awake without adding stress. Using screen time intentionally, rather than feeling guilty, helps me balance moments of rest and engagement. Allowing my toddler to be involved with the baby, rather than rushing or forcing perfection in every interaction, has also reduced anxiety by fostering connection and shared experience. Most importantly, I communicate openly with my partner about my feelings and ask for reassurance instead of bottling up anxious thoughts. This honest dialogue helps me feel supported and less isolated. Taking care of basic needs—eating well, staying hydrated, and resting before exhaustion sets in—is foundational. Each day, I remind myself that these challenging first weeks are emotional, beautiful, and temporary, which helps me be kinder to myself throughout this journey.
