Non Toxic Bug Spray

I love this stuff! It makes your house smell good while also keeping pests away. We get some little beetles, gnats, and wolf spiders in our house at times and I swear this stuff helps them to stay away.

I use about 2-3 tbsp Dawn dish soap, 8-10 drops of each essential oil- peppermint, spearmint, and cinnamon, then fill the bottle with water. Shake all together and spray away!

... Read moreIf you're looking for a natural way to keep your home pest-free without harsh chemicals, this DIY non toxic bug spray is a great solution. I’ve tried various commercial sprays before, but many had unpleasant odors or contained substances I wanted to avoid around my family and pets. Mixing 2-3 tablespoons of Dawn dish soap with 8-10 drops each of peppermint, spearmint, and cinnamon essential oils diluted in water not only deters common pests like beetles, gnats, and wolf spiders but also freshens the indoor air. The Dawn soap works as a surfactant, helping the essential oils adhere to surfaces and insects, disrupting their physiology without harmful toxins. Using essential oils is an effective, natural repellent method because many bugs find their scents unpleasant or overwhelming. Peppermint especially is widely known for its ability to repel spiders and ants. When using this spray, I recommend shaking the bottle well before each use to ensure the oils are mixed. Spray around door frames, windowsills, baseboards, and any areas where you've noticed pest activity. It’s best to reapply every few days or after cleaning. Plus, this homemade formula is safe to use around children and pets when applied appropriately, unlike many chemical insecticides. For people sensitive to scents or oils, you can adjust the amount of essential oils accordingly, but I have found the combination used strikes a good balance between effectiveness and scent. Additionally, keeping your home clean and free of food debris complements the bug spray by removing attractants. Overall, this non toxic indoor bug spray is an easy, cost-effective way to maintain a pest-free environment while supporting a healthy household. Give it a try, and you might be pleasantly surprised by how well it works and how pleasant your home will smell.
