here's my practice photos for photography

I've been enrolled in a photo class, i'm learning how to take pictures for my school yearbook!🤗

... Read moreAs a beginner in photography, I totally get how exciting and a little overwhelming it can feel to start! When I first enrolled in my photo class, my main goal was to get good enough to contribute to the school yearbook. What I quickly learned is that practice truly makes perfect, and you don't always need super fancy equipment or exotic locations to get great shots. My school campus itself became my very own photography lab! I spent a lot of time just exploring my immediate surroundings, much like the practice photos I shared. Our school grounds, for example, turned out to be a goldmine for subjects. I focused on the intricate details – like that vibrant orange and yellow flower I captured, really trying to get the detailed petals and stamens in crisp focus against a beautifully blurred green background. It taught me so much about aperture, depth of field, and isolating subjects, often without even realizing I was learning complex concepts! Walking around the outdoor school courtyard, I’d constantly look for interesting compositions. From the massive, old large green tree on the paved path to the modern school building with its large windows reflecting the clear blue sky and fluffy white clouds, there's always something to frame. I even found myself observing the everyday – like a person in a light hoodie and blue pants sitting on a wide metal staircase, or the unique texture of a dark brown seed pod hanging from a tree branch, with the foliage and buildings blurred in the background. These seemingly simple subjects became fascinating challenges, pushing me to see things differently. For anyone else just starting out with beginner photography practice, here are a few tips I picked up along the way that might help you on your own journey: Hunt for the Best Light: Pay close attention to how light falls on your subject. Golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) makes everything glow, but even a partly cloudy day can offer soft, even light perfect for portraits or close-ups. Notice how the blue sky and fluffy white clouds can add so much character to shots of buildings or landscapes. Experiment with Composition: Don't just point and shoot. Try applying the Rule of Thirds, or look for natural leading lines – like that paved pathway lined with stone planters that draws the eye towards the school buildings. Framing your subject using elements like small trees, a lamppost, or even a strategically placed trash can can add depth and interest. Change Your Angles: Get low, find a higher vantage point (safely, of course!), or shoot from an unexpected perspective. That shot of the person on the staircase? I tried it from a few different steps to see which angle told the best story. Focus on the Details: Sometimes the most compelling images are extreme close-ups. The intricate patterns of a flower's petals or the unique texture of a seed pod can make for stunning, almost abstract macro-style shots, even with basic camera equipment. Review and Reflect: After every practice session, take the time to look through your photos. What worked well? What didn't quite hit the mark? How could you improve next time? This reflective process is absolutely crucial for growth and understanding your camera better. It's all about consistency, curiosity, and enjoying the process. Don't be afraid to make mistakes; they're just stepping stones to becoming a better photographer. Keep exploring, keep shooting, and most importantly, keep having fun with your camera!
