Travel with me for a destination wedding as a photographer✈️📸🌴
We flew Orlando → Atlanta → Cabo to document Marissa & Isaac’s wedding weekend at Hard Rock Los Cabos. From carrying all my gear on, filling out customs forms, changing in the hotel bathroom because our room wasn’t ready yet 😂, and scouting the resort before wedding day… this trip was SO worth it.
If you’re nervous about traveling internationally with camera gear:
• keep your gear in your carry on
• take early flights if possible
• bring cash for tips
• double check your gate & transportation beforehand
• and yes… airport coffee is mandatory ☕️
So grateful I get to call this my job and even more grateful I got to experience this with my videographer Kristin 🥹🤍

Traveling internationally as a wedding photographer can be challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding, especially when capturing beautiful moments at a destination wedding like the one at Hard Rock Los Cabos. From personal experience, arriving at the airport three hours early gives you a stress-free start, especially when traveling with valuable camera gear and a tight schedule. Carrying all your equipment in a carry-on is essential; not only does this keep your gear safe and within sight, but it also allows you to avoid the risk of lost or delayed checked bags. Early morning flights are definitely advantageous—they help you beat airport crowds and make connecting flights smoother. Filling out customs forms before landing can feel tedious, but it’s a small step that smooths the process once you arrive. I found that being prepared with cash is a lifesaver since tipping the resort staff at an all-inclusive like Hard Rock Los Cabos shows appreciation for their excellent service and often improves your overall experience. One fun tip I use to keep energy levels high is indulging in airport coffee—it's surprisingly necessary when facing a day full of travel and photography work! Scouting the resort beforehand is crucial. It allows you to find the best lighting, identify scenic backdrops, and plan logistics to capture the best shots on wedding day. There was even a moment when the hotel room wasn’t ready, so quick thinking led me to change in the bathroom, which you’ll laugh about later! Working alongside trusted collaborators, like videographers, enhances the experience and the final product. Being able to share these moments with a team member like Kristin not only makes the trip more enjoyable but also professional. If you’re nervous about international travel with camera gear, my advice is to be well-prepared, flexible, and open to the adventure. Destination wedding photography is more than just capturing images—it’s about embracing new cultures, managing logistics smoothly, and creating unforgettable memories both behind and in front of the lens.
