72 Shovelhead
My newest addition..
Oh my goodness, I still can't quite believe it, but my newest addition has officially arrived! After what felt like an endless search, I've finally brought home my dream machine: a stunning red 1972 Harley-Davidson Shovelhead. This isn't just any motorcycle; it's a piece of history, a true classic that just screams character from every angle. The moment I saw her, I knew she was the one. That vibrant red fuel tank with the classic 'HARLEY-DAVIDSON' branding just pops, and it's complemented perfectly by the sleek black seat. But what really gets me are all the chrome components – they gleam and catch the light in a way that modern bikes just don't. Every inch of this bike, from the engine fins to the exhaust pipes, tells a story. It was parked indoors when I first laid eyes on it, and the wooden background just made that red paint stand out even more. Taking a closer look at the details, especially the dashboard, was a real treat. The speedometer is perfectly aged, and the ignition switch feels solid, just as you'd expect from a bike of this era. But the absolute highlight, the detail that made me laugh out loud and truly sealed the deal, is the little plate below the ignition switch. It boldly reads 'NOSY LITTLE FUCKER AREN'T YOU?'. It's such a sassy, old-school touch that perfectly reflects the rebellious spirit of these machines. It’s like the bike has its own personality, daring you to get to know it better. Owning a 1972 Shovelhead isn't just about having a cool bike; it's about embracing a legacy. The Shovelhead engine, introduced in the mid-60s, is legendary for its distinct sound and reliable (for its time!) performance. There's a raw, mechanical feel to riding one that you simply don't get with newer models. It connects you to an era when motorcycles were simpler, more visceral, and built with an undeniable soul. My plans for her? First, a thorough inspection and some tender loving care to make sure everything is in top shape. Then, it's all about hitting the open road. I can't wait to feel the rumble of that engine, hear the distinctive exhaust note, and experience the pure joy of riding a true classic Harley. There might be a few small personal touches I'll add down the line, but for now, I just want to soak in the experience of finally having this beauty in my garage. It's going to be an adventure, and I'm thrilled to share every bit of it!
