Is there such thing as “too many books”?

Hopefully you’re not a tosser and turner 😆😂

... Read moreWe all have that moment, don't we? Staring at our growing stacks of novels, textbooks, and memoirs, and wondering: "how many books do you need to have a library?" For me, this question became a creative challenge. My love for reading is so deep that I literally built my bed out of books! Yes, you heard that right – a bed with a frame and headboard constructed entirely from stacks of books. Now, when I say 'library,' I don't necessarily mean the grand, publicly funded kind. I'm talking about a personal sanctuary of stories, knowledge, and adventure right in your own home. Is it 50 books? 100? Or perhaps just enough to create a cozy, book-filled nook? There's no single magic number, and that's the beauty of it. A home library is less about quantity and more about connection – the books that resonate with you, that you want to revisit, or that inspire you. My book bed, for instance, isn't just a quirky display; it’s a functional part of my home library. Imagine waking up surrounded by your favorite authors! On top, a soft white ruffled comforter invites you in, flanked by two comfy brown pillows and a striped bolster pillow for that extra touch of coziness. It’s set on a warm wooden floor, and if you look closely, you can see more shelves visible in the background, proving my collection extends beyond my sleep space. This unique setup challenges the idea of traditional storage and makes every book feel like a treasured part of my decor. For those of us dreaming of our own home library, here are a few thoughts from my own journey: Define Your "Library": What does it mean to you? Is it a place for research, escapism, or just a beautiful display? Your definition will guide your collection. Embrace Creative Storage: Not everyone can build a bed out of books (and hopefully you’re not a tosser and turner if you do!), but there are countless ways to store your books. Think beyond standard bookcases. Floating shelves, under-bed storage, or even stacks acting as side tables can be both practical and aesthetically pleasing. Curate with Love: Don't feel pressured to keep every book you've ever read. A true library should be a reflection of your tastes and interests. Donate, swap, or gift books that no longer serve you to make space for new literary discoveries. Organize Your Way: Whether it's by genre, author, color, or even how much you loved them, choose an organizational system that makes you happy and helps you find what you're looking for. It's a Journey, Not a Destination: Your home library will evolve with you. It grows as you read more, discover new interests, and revisit old favorites. Ultimately, whether you have a towering stack of 20 books or a room overflowing with thousands, if those books bring you joy, knowledge, or comfort, then congratulations – you have a library. For me, it's about having my stories close, literally, and finding clever ways to keep them part of my everyday life. So, how many books do you need for your perfect home library? The answer is uniquely yours!
