... Read moreCan you believe my little Doki is already 4 months old today? It feels like just yesterday I was bringing this adorable Boston Terrier puppy home! Time truly flies when you're having so much fun with your furry companion. Keeping up with his health is my top priority, and we just had his important 4-month vet checkup. I wanted to share a bit about what that visit involved and what we're focusing on for his health and development at this crucial stage. For any other puppy parents out there, especially those with a growing Boston Terrier, I hope this helps you too! Our vet gave Doki a thorough physical examination, checking everything from his eyes and ears to his teeth, coat, heart, and lungs. They also felt his belly to make sure everything was in order internally. It’s comforting to know a professional is looking over every aspect of his health. At 4 months, many puppies are due for their booster vaccinations, which are super important for building their immunity against common diseases. Doki received his latest round, and we also discussed parasite prevention. Making sure he’s protected from fleas, ticks, and internal worms is key to keeping him healthy and happy. Our vet also talked about the importance of continued deworming and a good quality flea and tick preventative, which is something I definitely don't want to miss. One of the biggest things we’re noticing with Doki at 4 months is the teething process! Everything seems to be a chew toy, and he’s definitely losing some tiny baby teeth while new adult ones are coming in. Having plenty of safe chew toys has been a lifesaver. His energy levels are also through the roof! Daily walks and playtime are non-negotiable to help him burn off all that puppy energy. We’re also still very focused on socialization – exposing him to new sights, sounds, people, and other vaccinated dogs in a positive way. Nutrition is another big topic. Our vet confirmed that Doki is thriving on his current puppy food, and we discussed portion sizes to ensure he’s growing at a healthy rate. For a Boston Terrier puppy, maintaining an ideal weight is important for their joint health as they grow. We also touched on the basics of training and reinforcing good behaviors. Consistency is definitely the key here! As a puppy parent, keeping an eye out for any changes in behavior or health is always on my mind. Things like changes in appetite, lethargy, or digestive upset are always red flags that warrant a call to the vet. Early detection can make a huge difference. What were your experiences with your puppy's 4-month checkup? Do you have any unique health tips for a growing Boston Terrier, or anything you wish you had known at this stage?
