Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No.1
2025/1/20 Edited to

... Read moreYou know how much I love finding amazing travel experiences that don't break the bank, and let me tell you, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observatory is one of my absolute top finds! When planning my Tokyo trip, I saw everyone heading to Shibuya Sky or the Skytree, and while those views are spectacular, the ticket prices can really add up. That's when I stumbled upon this incredible FREE observatory right in the heart of Shinjuku. It truly delivers on its promise of stunning views without costing a single yen! What really blew me away was the sheer scale of the views. From the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, you get a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the city. On a clear day, you can even spot iconic landmarks like the Tokyo Tower and, the crown jewel – the majestic Mount Fuji standing proudly in the distance! Seeing Mount Fuji from this vantage point, completely free of charge, felt like such a special bonus. I'd highly recommend checking the weather forecast before you go if seeing Fuji is a priority, as it can often be hidden by clouds. Early morning or late afternoon often provide the best visibility. The original post mentions the South Observatory, which is fantastic, but did you know there are actually two observation decks? Both the North and South Observatories offer incredible vistas, each with slightly different perspectives. They generally have similar operating hours, but it's always a good idea to quickly check their official website for any last-minute changes, especially during holidays. Accessing these decks is super easy; just head to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, usually a 10-15 minute walk from Shinjuku Station. Follow the signs, and you'll go through a quick security check, similar to an airport, but it's very efficient. I personally love visiting around sunset. Watching the city lights slowly flicker on as the sky changes colors is an unforgettable experience. And if you stay until after dark, the whole city transforms into a glittering carpet of lights – it’s truly magical. Unlike some other paid observatories, this place often feels a bit more relaxed, even though it's incredibly popular. You can take your time, soak in the views, and get some fantastic photos without feeling rushed. It's a perfect spot for both solo travelers and families. After enjoying the spectacular Tokyo observation deck free of charge, you're perfectly positioned to explore more of Shinjuku. This vibrant district has so much to offer, from the bustling streets of Kabukicho to the serene beauty of Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. You could grab some delicious Japanese food, do some shopping, or simply wander around and soak in the unique atmosphere of one of Tokyo's most dynamic neighborhoods. Combining a visit to this free observation deck with an afternoon exploring Shinjuku makes for a perfect day out in Tokyo. Trust me, this is one Tokyo travel tip you won't want to skip!
