teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM
2025/1/21 Edited to

... Read moreMy visit to TeamLab Planets in Tokyo was genuinely one of the most unforgettable experiences I've ever had! It's not just an art museum; it's a journey that completely immerses your senses. If you're planning a trip, let me share a bit more about what makes this place so special and how to make your visit even better. First off, prepare to be mesmerized from the moment you step in. The concept here is 'Body Immersive,' meaning you become part of the art. You walk through water, interact with digital flowers that bloom and fade, and get lost in infinite crystal universes. One of my favorite installations was 'Drawing on the Water Surface Created by the Dance of Koi and People – Infinity.' Walking through knee-deep water as digital koi fish react to your movements and transform into flowers was truly magical. It's a symphony of light, sound, and sensation that you have to experience to believe. Another highlight is 'The Infinite Crystal Universe,' an overwhelming expanse of hanging lights that change colors and patterns, making you feel like you're floating in space. And don't even get me started on the 'Floating Flower Garden,' where thousands of orchids ascend and descend around you – it's like being in a dream! To truly enjoy this sensory overload, I highly recommend dedicating at least 2 to 3 hours. It's located in Toyosu, easily accessible by public transport; the nearest station is Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome Line. It’s quite a popular spot, so booking your tickets in advance is absolutely crucial, especially if you want those early-morning slots (which often sell out fast, as I learned!). Check their official website for opening hours, as they can vary. A few more practical tips from my own visit: Wear comfortable clothes: You'll be walking, and sometimes sitting or lying down, on various surfaces. Darker clothing for photos: Many of the installations involve projections, and darker clothes help you blend in or stand out against the light art for better photos. Don't worry about your belongings: They have free lockers for your bags and shoes right at the entrance, which is super convenient. You'll need to remove your shoes for some areas. Towels are provided: Yes, they actually give you towels to dry your feet after the water-based exhibits, so no need to bring your own! Roll up your pants: As the original article mentioned, definitely wear pants you can roll up to your knees for the water rooms. Or, if you're wearing a skirt or dress, consider shorts underneath. Be present: While taking photos is tempting, try to put your phone away for a bit and just soak in the experience. It’s truly unique. After your immersive journey, if you're feeling hungry, there's even a vegan ramen restaurant, Vegan Ramen UZU Tokyo, right within the TeamLab Planets complex that's worth checking out. It’s a great way to extend the unique experience. This place is definitely a Tokyo gem that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list!
