Not vibing lol 🤡
Okay, let's be real for a moment. We all have those days, don't we? The ones where, as the image perfectly captured, 'The vibes were not vibing...' It's more than just a bad mood; it's that pervasive feeling where everything just feels a little... off. Like you're walking through quicksand, and every small task feels monumental. For me, these 'not vibing' days often sneak up unexpectedly. Sometimes it's a cascade of little things – the coffee machine breaking, a forgotten school permission slip, or the kids deciding to use breakfast cereal as confetti just minutes before we need to leave. Other times, it's a deeper, unidentifiable funk that settles in, making even my favorite activities feel dull. And let me tell you, as a mom, these days can feel extra challenging because you're not just managing your own 'not vibing' feelings but also trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy and positive energy for your little ones. It’s a delicate balance, and often, it feels like I’m failing. So, what do I do when I realize the vibes are decidedly not vibing? First, I try to acknowledge it. It’s okay to not be okay, and it’s certainly okay to have an off day. Trying to fight it or guilt myself for feeling this way usually just makes it worse. Acknowledging it is the first step towards giving myself grace. Next, I try to identify if there’s a simple fix, even if it's a small one. Am I hungry? Thirsty? Haven't moved all day? Sometimes a glass of water, a quick stretch, or stepping outside for two minutes can shift something. If it's pure overwhelm, I try to pick one small, achievable task and focus solely on that. Maybe it's just unloading the dishwasher, or sending that one important email. Ticking off even a tiny win can create a ripple effect. When my kids are around and I'm having a 'not vibing' day, I try to be honest (in an age-appropriate way, of course!). Something like, "Mommy's feeling a little tired today, so we're going to have a quiet afternoon," can set expectations and reduce pressure on myself to be super-mom. Sometimes, a change of scenery helps everyone. A spontaneous trip to the park, even if it's just to sit on a bench while they play, can break the cycle of a stagnant, un-vibing atmosphere at home. And let's not forget the power of connection. Sometimes a quick text to a friend saying, "My vibes are NOT vibing today, send wine/coffee/chocolate emojis!" is all it takes to feel a little less alone. Knowing others experience this too is incredibly validating. Ultimately, I’ve learned that 'not vibing' days are just part of the human experience, especially when juggling the beautiful chaos of mom life. It’s not a reflection of my capabilities or my worth. It’s just a day where the energy is low, or things aren't flowing. The best I can do is ride the wave, be kind to myself, and trust that tomorrow is a fresh start. And usually, it is. We reset, we try again, and hopefully, the good vibes return. What do you do when your vibes are just not vibing?
