Every shift is a little different depending on where you’re assigned, so this was just what I was doing that day.
But overall, it’s a mix of helping fans, answering questions, keeping things organized, and making sure people have a great experience while they’re there.
Now for what everyone really wants to know:
1. Do we get to meet the players? No I wish if they show up to the fan area we might see them but we don’t get special access sadly
2 walkie talkie code name? I don’t even got a walkie talkie hahhaah but I am open to suggested nicknames anyway
3. Do you get paid? No this is strictly volunteer work. We get a uniform and little gifts if that counts
4. Why did I pick Kansas City? To be honest i thought it was gonna be my best shot to actually get picked 😂 but have loved exploring the city and watching the games!
Let me know if you have any other questions about volunteering at the World Cup. I’ll answer them below!

Volunteering at a major global event like the FIFA World Cup offers a unique blend of excitement and community spirit that you can't find elsewhere. From my own experience and stories shared by volunteers, the role is truly dynamic — each shift can bring something new depending on the assignment, whether it involves guiding fans, answering questions, or helping maintain order. Although volunteers don't get special access to players, just being part of the atmosphere and occasionally spotting them in fan zones adds to the thrill. It's important to remember that this is an unpaid volunteer position, so motivations typically revolve around passion for the sport, the event, and the city hosting it. Kansas City, for instance, is a great place to explore with its vibrant local culture and cuisine, making it a memorable backdrop for the experience. Volunteers receive uniforms and small gifts, which help foster a sense of belonging. Communication tools like walkie talkies are not always provided, but creative nicknames and camaraderie among the team make the environment fun. Volunteering also allows you to meet a diverse range of fans from around the world, making it a social experience beyond just supporting event logistics. If you’re considering volunteering at a future World Cup or similar events, I recommend preparing yourself for a flexible and people-oriented job. It's rewarding to know that your contribution helps create a seamless and enjoyable experience for attendees. Plus, it’s an excellent opportunity for personal growth, networking, and making memories that last well beyond the final whistle.
