Clevelanders deserve a real voice in our public schools. Instead, we’re stuck with a mayor-appointed school board that silences dissent, blocks public access to meetings forcing students and parents even to leave their freedom of speech at the door to be allowed entrance, and refuses to hear comments when voting to close schools that the CEO springs on the community with 13 business days notice right before spring break.
They take our tax dollars, money scraped from households with an average income of just $37,000 and funnel it into executive pay raises, who earn 150k to 299k individually.
We sacrificed what little we had to protect our schools and teachers. But instead of investing in classrooms, they chose to shut down schools, lay off educators, decrease instruction time for students, refuse to repair vital infrastructure, and give themselves a 5% raise.
