LARCHE COMMUNITY PART 5. (Staff and fire drills included) The LARCHE community was started in France, spreading across the world. LARCHE is a group of special needs individuals living together with typical brained adults. Meals are very important as they’re all eaten at the same table. EVERY meal. It is a catholic organization so religious undertones abide. I spent 2 weeks with this precious group of people. As time went on the lines between “us” and “them” erased to only become “us.” You can look up the LARCHE community to learn more. The lonely outcast now sits in the place of honor at the dinner table. #larche #spokanewashington #blackandwhitephotography #downssyndrom #specialneeds @officialpeoplesartist

... Read moreSpending two weeks immersed in the LARCHE community was a truly eye-opening experience that reshaped my understanding of inclusion and belonging. I witnessed firsthand how the act of sharing meals together at the same table—every single meal—played a crucial role in fostering a strong sense of community and equality. It was remarkable how the boundaries between those with special needs and typical adults blurred to form a unified "us." The Catholic foundation of LARCHE added meaningful spiritual depth to daily life, with gentle religious undertones guiding interactions and values. This spiritual connection helped cultivate compassion and patience, reinforcing the community’s respectful and loving atmosphere. One of the most striking aspects was how individuals, who might be seen as outcasts in mainstream society, were celebrated and honored within LARCHE. The experience revealed the powerful impact that small gestures, such as sharing a meal or participating in community activities like staff and fire drills, can have on breaking social barriers. For anyone interested in witnessing a model of genuine inclusivity, I highly recommend learning more about the LARCHE community. My time there not only enriched my perspective on special needs but also inspired me to advocate for more compassionate, integrated living environments everywhere. This community stands as a living testament to the beauty of embracing differences and fostering belonging for all.
