Trying out my new bissell steam cleaner
When I came into this unit, it was obvious that no one had cleaned it. It was FILTHY. Years of people smoking nicotine had changed the colors of the walls and ceiling. Toilets both needed new parts. Holes in the walls and doors from angry tenants. Writing on the walls.
While the bigger projects will happen later (like the holes and replacing wall panels), and I’ve already fixed one toilet and have another to do, this steam cleaner is the best investment my partner has ever bought me for my cleaning. I can’t wait to see it take the writing off the doors and walls from previous tenants!
-the doodle on this door, however, was from my 3 year old. I don’t give him access to things that make permanent damage, and usually scribbles like this take me a little elbow grease, but nothing crazy. I don’t mind his creativity, it’s all a part of the age (I have two much older sons too).
I think next time he does this, I might assist him on using the steam cleaner …obviously within reason since it IS hot, but give him some freedom and consequences. He just loves to help, and this cleaner is so easy to use! And plus, I don’t want his curiosity to result in a burn: having some of that independent learning with it, again I’ll be with him guiding him, will give him a safe distance to feel the heat without getting hurt: really important IMO parenting wise to give kids these kind of safe opportunities for safety.
Wow, who knew moving into a new place could feel like an archaeological dig? After tackling that super filthy apartment, I wanted to share some extra tips I picked up using my new Bissell steam cleaner. If you're wondering how to get the most out of your machine, especially for those really tough jobs, here’s what I learned! First, let's talk about those stubborn multi-surface stains. My unit had nicotine residue on the walls and old writing on the doors – seriously, it was a challenge! For these kinds of messes, pre-treatment is your best friend. A quick spray with a good multi-surface stain cleaner a few minutes before hitting it with the Bissell makes a huge difference. I found that letting it soak a bit breaks down the grime, making it much easier for the steam cleaner to lift away. Using the right attachments, like the brush tool, was also key for scrubbing those really set-in marks without damaging the surface. It’s not just for carpets or upholstery; these cleaners, especially models like the Bissell Revolution HydroSteam, are surprisingly versatile! Speaking of versatility, don’t forget your Bissell can do more than just floors. While my main battle was walls and doors, I’m already eyeing my couch and even the car's interior for a deep clean. Learning how to use Bissell carpet cleaner effectively translates to other areas. For example, when using it on vertical surfaces, work in small sections and wipe immediately with a clean cloth to prevent drips. It’s a bit different than traditional carpet cleaning, but the results are so worth it. Now, a little troubleshooting from my own experience. There were a couple of times I thought, 'Why is my Bissell steam mop not steaming?' or 'Help, my ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro isn't spraying!' Most of the time, it was something simple. Check your water tank first – make sure it’s properly seated and has enough water. Sometimes, the nozzle can get a bit clogged, especially if you're using a formula. A quick flush with plain hot water or checking the manual for specific cleaning instructions for your model, like a Bissell Spot Clean Pro, can usually fix it. It's frustrating when you're in the middle of a big clean, but these machines are pretty robust once you know their quirks. And finally, a quick note on care. To keep your Bissell performing its best, it's super important to deep clean your Bissell Little Green Machine (or whatever model you have) after each use. Empty and rinse all tanks, clean the brushes, and wipe down the exterior. This prevents residue buildup and ensures it’s ready for your next big cleaning adventure. Trust me, a little maintenance goes a long way in keeping your investment working like new!

I could not imagine ever letting my kids write on doors and walls, wash off or not. That is disrespectful to your home, not to mention more work for you.
