Waiting over six hours to capture the perfect moment at Fuego volcano taught me the true meaning of patience and reward. The combined hike to Fuego is notoriously intense, demanding both physical stamina and mental resilience, especially after already conquering Acatenango. If you plan to visit Guatemala for this experience, here are some tips based on what I learned: Dress warmly as temperatures can drop significantly at higher altitudes during night hours. Bring a sturdy tripod for steady time-lapse shots, and consider the timing of your hike to avoid overexertion before the eruption watch. Lastly, the 6 hours and 31 minutes I waited were a test of patience but ultimately made capturing that eruption timelapse all the more rewarding. This moment not only became one of my favorite highlights from the trip but also reinforced the value of perseverance and being present in nature’s most dramatic displays.
