It's awesome to hear so many of you are curious about reading on the treadmill! When I first started, I wasn't sure how practical it would be, but now it's a non-negotiable part of my cardio routine. Beyond just making time fly, I've found some little tricks that make the experience even better, and I wanted to share them with you! First off, let's talk about what to read and how to hold it. I've tried everything from chunky hardcovers to my phone, and I've settled on a few favorites. For me, a lightweight paperback or an e-reader works best. If you're going with a physical book, look for something that isn't too heavy and can be easily held with one hand, or even propped open on the treadmill console. I've seen some clever people use book stands, but I usually just hold it. If you're using an e-reader or your phone, make sure it's fully charged! I often just place mine on the console's ledge, right in front of the MATRIX branding, adjusted so I can see it without straining my neck. The key is finding a position where you don't have to constantly adjust it. Next, treadmill settings are crucial. You don't want to be stumbling while trying to follow a plot twist! I usually start with a comfortable walking pace, maybe around 2.5-3.0 mph, and a slight incline (1.0-2.0%) to keep it interesting without demanding too much focus. As you get more comfortable, you can definitely increase your speed or incline. The goal isn't to break any speed records but to get a good workout while enjoying your book. If you hit a particularly gripping part or need a moment, don't hesitate to hit the pause button – that's what it's there for! Another thing I've learned is to choose your books wisely. While I love a complex thriller, I tend to stick to lighter fiction, memoirs, or engaging non-fiction when I'm on the treadmill. Something that keeps me turning pages but doesn't require me to re-read sentences multiple times because I got distracted by my stride. Audiobooks are also a fantastic option if you prefer to just focus on your movement! Finally, don't forget about your comfort and gym etiquette. Good headphones are a must for blocking out gym noise and immersing yourself in your story. And while it's tempting to get lost in your book, always be aware of your surroundings. Wipe down the machine when you're done, and if the gym is super busy, be mindful of how long you're on the machine. Incorporating reading into my treadmill routine has honestly transformed my whole workout experience. It's no longer a chore; it's a dedicated time for me to move my body and feed my mind. I encourage you to give it a try – you might just find your new favorite way to break a sweat!
