Forgotten Disney Movies!

2024/9/7 Edited to

... Read moreAfter sharing some of my all-time favorite forgotten Disney movies, I got to thinking about why these particular films stick with us, even if they don't get the same spotlight as the classics. It's often the unique stories, unexpected characters, or even the subtle themes that resonate long after the credits roll. Take *Aquamarine*, for example. While not a traditional Disney animation, it definitely captures that magical, coming-of-age spirit. For me, it taps into a certain "seafaring culture" vibe, not just with the mermaid protagonist but also the longing for adventure and the mystery of the ocean. It’s about more than just finding love; it’s about friendship, self-discovery, and understanding different worlds. It really made me wish for my own magical summer by the sea! Then there are the characters who start out a bit timid but grow into true warriors. Bernard and Bianca from The Rescuers might be tiny mice, but their bravery and determination to save Penny are huge! They face down all sorts of dangers, proving that courage isn't about size. Similarly, in *Brother Bear*, Kenai goes on an incredible journey, transforming from someone driven by revenge to a protector with a deep understanding of nature. His initial reluctance and eventual acceptance of his new life show a different kind of warrior spirit—one that’s about empathy and responsibility. And who can forget Will Stronghold in *Sky High*? He starts off feeling like a disappointment, overshadowed by his superhero parents, but he eventually finds his own strength and heroism, embracing his destiny without fear. Even Cody in The Thirteenth Year faces a huge, unexpected physical transformation, stepping into a new identity with a mixture of fear and growing confidence. It’s also fun to think about how some of these forgotten gems could inspire amazing video games. Imagine an open-world RPG based on *The Sorcerer's Apprentice*, where you learn different spells and navigate mythical challenges in a modern city! Or a cooperative adventure game where you play as Bernard and Bianca, solving puzzles and outsmarting villains in a richly detailed world inspired by *The Rescuers*. Even Sky High could make a fantastic superhero simulator where you develop your powers and choose your path as a hero or sidekick. These movies offer such rich narratives and visually distinct worlds that they feel ripe for interactive experiences. These films, whether they’re about mermaids, talking animals, or kids with superpowers, all offer something special. They remind us that there’s a whole treasure trove of movies beyond the most popular ones, each with its own charm and lessons. Revisiting them is like finding a hidden gem, and it always sparks a little joy and nostalgia for me. What other hidden Disney gems do you think deserve more love?
