Stop! Your Dead Plant Might Still be Alive! ‼️

My plants were crying for help! I was on a one-week trip and this is how I found them.

• How to identify if there’s still hope when they look like this:

🌱 Dull green leaves and branches:

If the leaves and branches are a dull green but still soft on, there’s hope! You can also lightly scratch the stem with your fingernail. If it’s green underneath, your plant is still alive.

🌱 Bend a stem:

Gently bend a small branch or stem. If it’s flexible, that part is still alive.

• How to know if it’s dead:

🪾 Brown and dry leaves:

If the plant is completely dry and brown with crispy leaves, that’s not a good sign.

🪾 Snaps easily:

If it breaks with no resistance, that part is likely dead and dehydrated.

🪾 No new growth:

After a few weeks of care, you should see some signs of life. Some plants look dead but then surprise you with tiny new growth. If there’s nothing at all, it might really be gone.

... Read moreWhen your plants appear lifeless after a trip or lack of care, it's essential to know that they might still have a chance at survival. A dull green color on leaves and branches could indicate that your plants are still living, especially if they feel soft. A quick test involves scratching the stem gently; if you find green underneath, life persists! Gently bending a stem can confirm flexibility, suggesting that area remains healthy. On the flip side, brown and dry leaves spell trouble, as do stems that snap easily. Monitor your plant over several weeks; if new growth emerges, there's hope. However, if there's no significant change, it's likely the plant has succumbed. Learning to recognize these signs is crucial for responsible plant care so you can nurture your greenery back to health.

A collage of four potted plants illustrates 'DEAD VS DORMANT' with definitions. Dormant means resting and conserving energy, while dead means no signs of life or recovery.

If you’ve ever had a plant that suddenly stopped growing, dropped all its leaves, or looked totally lifeless, you’re not alone. I’ve definitely panicked and assumed the worst… but sometimes, a plant isn’t dead at all. It’s just dormant. So what’s the difference? 🌱 A dormant plant is still ali
