Coat the chicken in oil and season it very generously, set aside for 10-15 minutes to marinate (30-1hr if you have time). Heat up the skillet with a little bit of oil and sear the chicken skin down first for 3-5 minutes until its brown, flip over and do the same thing for 3-5 minutes. Remove chicken and fry the bell peppers and onions until they’re translucent. Add both cans of cream of chicken and stir, then add the broth little by little until you get the consistency you like. Place the chicken in a baking dish and pour the gravy over the chicken. Bake covered for 1hr on 375 and 30 minutes uncovered! Stir gravy around chicken to loosen it up, then serve on a bed of rice or mash potatoes. #chickenrecipeideas #momlifestyle #mom #fypシ゚viral #fyp

... Read moreAfter perfecting my smothered chicken recipe, I often get asked about making it a complete meal that truly warms the soul. It's one thing to have amazing chicken, but pairing it with the right sides elevates the entire experience. I've experimented a lot in my kitchen, and I'm excited to share some of my go-to pairings and gravy tips that have made my family dinners unforgettable. While fluffy white rice or creamy mashed potatoes are classic choices, I've found that sometimes you want to mix it up. One of my absolute favorite additions, especially when I'm feeling a bit indulgent, is a rich, homemade macaroni and cheese. There's just something about that cheesy goodness blending with the savory chicken gravy that's pure perfection. I usually bake mine until it's golden brown on top, giving it a lovely crust. Another unexpected but incredibly delicious side I've started adding is simply cooked cabbage. Whether it's steamed or lightly sautéed with a touch of seasoning, its slight bitterness provides a wonderful contrast to the richness of the chicken and gravy. It's a fantastic way to get some greens in without sacrificing flavor. I've even tried collard greens or green beans, and they work beautifully too! Let's talk gravy, because that’s really the heart of smothered chicken. While my recipe uses cream of chicken soup for that classic taste, I've played around with variations. If you're looking for a slightly different flavor profile, you can experiment with adding a splash of white wine or a pinch of dried thyme to your gravy mixture. For an even richer, deeper flavor, sometimes I'll use a mix of chicken broth and a little heavy cream instead of just broth. If you find your gravy isn't as thick as you'd like, a cornstarch slurry (equal parts cornstarch and cold water) whisked in at the end can work wonders. And don't be afraid to taste and adjust the seasonings throughout – that's my biggest secret to a truly perfect gravy! Using quality ingredients like Campbell's Cream of Chicken with Herbs soup and Swanson Chicken Broth can really make a difference in the final taste, giving it that home-cooked depth. This smothered chicken recipe is also fantastic for meal prepping. I love making a big batch on a Sunday evening because the leftovers are just as good, if not better, the next day. The flavors really meld together. I portion out the chicken and gravy with some of those delicious sides like rice or mac and cheese into individual containers. It makes for such a satisfying and easy lunch during a busy week. Just a quick reheat, and you have a comforting meal ready to go. My tip for reheating is to add a tiny splash of broth or water if the gravy seems too thick, to bring it back to that perfect consistency. So, whether you're serving it for a family dinner or prepping for the week, remember that smothered chicken is all about comfort and flavor. Don't be afraid to get creative with your sides and seasonings. I hope these extra tips help you create an even more memorable meal!
