Granny’s lil princess. My Mel Mel🫶
Oh my goodness, every moment with my sweet lil Mel is a treasure! Being a granny truly is one of life's greatest joys. I remember when she was just a tiny bundle, and now she's growing so fast, full of personality and those adorable expressions that just melt your heart. Like in these pictures, where she's making the cutest faces in the car – once with her little tongue out, and then with those wide, curious eyes and an open mouth, like she's trying to tell me a whole story without saying a word! Capturing these candid moments, especially in the car, is so important because they grow up in a blink. It’s funny how a simple car ride can become a stage for such precious memories. I often get asked how I make our time together so special, especially during car rides. Honestly, it's about making it an adventure, no matter how short! For "Mel Mel," I always pack a little bag of her favorite soft toys – like her fluffy bunny, and some crinkly books that grab her attention. Sometimes, we sing silly songs together – her current favorite is 'Wheels on the Bus,' and trust me, my rendition is quite enthusiastic, complete with hand gestures! I also make sure she's super comfortable and safe in her car seat, with just the right amount of sunlight filtering in, so she's happy and not too warm. A little portable fan can be a lifesaver on particularly sunny days, and a soft blanket for naps is a must. Hydration is important too, so a spill-proof sippy cup is always within reach. Beyond the car, our favorite bonding activities are surprisingly simple but incredibly meaningful. We love reading together; even if it's just me reading with silly voices and her babbling along, those quiet moments are priceless. We also enjoy gentle walks in the park, pointing out birds, squirrels, and colorful flowers. It’s all about creating those small, consistent connections that build a strong bond. And let's not forget the power of a good cuddle! Nothing beats a granny hug, especially when she snuggles into me. Sometimes we just sit and watch the world go by, and her innocent observations always amuse and enlighten me. I've learned that being truly present is key. Put away the phone, resist the urge to multitask, and just truly look at them, listen to their little sounds, and respond with warmth and genuine interest. These are the moments they'll grow up remembering, and honestly, the moments I cherish the most. Seeing her bright smiles and wide eyes light up with curiosity or joy when I arrive is the best feeling in the world, a pure, unconditional love that fills my soul. It’s a joy I never knew existed until "Mel Mel" came into my life. For any fellow grandmas or grandpas out there, what are your go-to activities or traditions with your 'lil Mel' or grandchild? I'd absolutely love to hear your tips and stories too – we can all learn and share in this wonderful journey of grandparenthood!
