Give me space!
Space is the gap between stimulus and response. Stimulus is all the things that happen to us while response is our reaction to these events.
With space, we gain the inner peace that allows us to consciously plan our response, instead of reacting according to our natural instincts. Without space, we keep on ‘doing’ things, without really understanding how or why we behave in a certain way.
To find space, we need to clear our mind from the cluttered thoughts. Mental and digital detoxes help to organise ideas and remove stressors from our lives. Being physically active or present in nature calms us down, lowering cortisol (stress hormone) levels and reducing feelings of anxiety.
When you have truly discovered space, you realise that you start to act and react from a place of logic and reason. You no longer let your emotions dictate your behaviour.

When I first started exploring the idea of creating mental space, I didn’t realize how much it would influence my pursuit of meaning in life. The journey began by recognizing that constant busyness and reacting to stimuli left me feeling drained and disconnected from what truly mattered. Incorporating simple practices like brain dumps—where I jot down all swirling thoughts on paper—helped me gain clarity and start organizing my mental landscape. Digital detoxes became a game-changer; setting aside dedicated time without technology allowed me to reset and reduce anxiety caused by nonstop notifications and information overload. Pairing that with mindful movements such as morning walks in nature or short meditation sessions seemed to lower my stress levels and invited a deeper sense of calm. Finding space isn’t about doing nothing; it’s about cultivating moments where you’re not driven by fear or reactive emotions but by conscious choice. I noticed that when I gave myself room to pause, my responses became more aligned with my values, enhancing self-acceptance and gratitude. Taking the Mental Wealth Score Quiz was insightful as it helped me benchmark where I stood in terms of purpose, growth, and space. Having a tool to revisit and notice incremental progress strengthens motivation to maintain these habits. Ultimately, embracing space helped me pursue meaning with greater clarity and intentionality. It’s about building a lifestyle that supports mental wellness through balance, resilience, and letting go of stressors — a principle I believe anyone striving for personal growth can benefit from.
