Book Apps 📚
My fave book apps!! I’ve just recently discovered I can listen to audiobooks on Libby and I read a book in one day and now on to another!
I can’t quite figure out hoopla yet. Apparently my library card isn’t found for some reason. 😩
What are your fave book apps?? 😛
After my recent discovery of just how easy it is to devour audiobooks with Libby, I've been on a mission to optimize my entire reading experience! Seriously, finishing a book in a day felt like such an achievement, and now I'm hooked. While I'm still trying to navigate Hoopla's library connection (it can be a bit finicky sometimes!), I realized there's a whole world of apps out there that can transform how we read and connect with books. One of the biggest game-changers for me has been finding social audiobook platforms with reading goals. It's not just about listening; it's about tracking progress and sharing the journey! Apps like Goodreads and StoryGraph (both visible in my 'Books' folder!) are fantastic for this. With Goodreads, I love setting my yearly reading challenge and seeing what my friends are enjoying. StoryGraph offers even more detailed stats and personalized recommendations, which is perfect for discovering my next obsession. These platforms make reading a shared experience, not just a solitary one. Then there are audiobook apps with book club features and vibrant community discussions. While Libby and Hoopla are great for access, I often use other platforms or companion apps like Fable or even Discord (another app in my folder!) to connect with my book club. Fable is designed specifically for social reading and discussion, allowing you to highlight passages and chat with your group directly within the app. For broader discussions, dedicated servers on Discord are amazing for connecting with fellow readers who share your genre interests, whether it's classic mystery ebooks or hidden gem fantasy audiobooks. Speaking of features, bookmarking and note-taking are absolutely essential for me, especially when I'm diving into nonfiction audiobooks or complex fantasy series. Apps like Kindle (which also has a great audiobook integration) usually have built-in highlighting and note functions. While listening, I often pause to make a quick note in a separate app or directly within the audiobook player if it supports it, helping me retain information or mark a memorable quote. Some advanced platforms even offer services for sharing audiobook highlights digitally, which is a fantastic way to engage with friends or study groups. And for finding new reads, I can't forget BookFunnel. This app is a lifesaver for readers who love to discover new authors and get free or discounted ebooks and audiobooks. It's often used by authors for advanced reader copies or promotional giveaways, and it's how I've stumbled upon some truly unique stories. It's a great complementary tool, especially when you're looking for specific genres like classic and modern mystery ebooks and audiobooks or trying to build up your daily ebook reading lists. Finally, addressing the "Libby vs. Hoopla" question, from my experience, Libby generally has a smoother user interface for audiobooks and a wider selection from many public libraries. However, Hoopla often offers content immediately, without waitlists, which is a huge plus! Both are library superstars. Exploring their unique Hoopla audiobook app interface or Libby's seamless borrowing process reveals different strengths. My best advice is to try both if your library offers them. What about you? What are your favorite features in book apps that make your reading life better?
