I’m enamored. Tek and Carey’s story was so adorable. Tek has this oddly specific, innocent (and somehow also hot) fixation. I absolutely adore it! I loved how Carey took care of Tek when he needed it. Ahhh, they’re so sweet! 🥹

You know that book that has you rushing to get home so you can read it? That was me, rushing to get home so I can read more of their story. (While also dreading it ending.)

If you haven’t read Book One, you don’t HAVE to, but if you’re a fan of bully romance I absolutely recommend it.

There was a bit of timeline overlap between the two books, but getting the story from Tek and Carey’s POV made this so satisfying to read. We got so many blanks filled in, especially during “The “I Love Jin” Conversation” 🤭.

TLDR: Sweet and kinky best friends brother, forbidden romance.

... Read moreHaving recently dived into "Paralyze" by JJ Asher, I was captivated by how the story melds intense emotional conflict with tender moments, creating a compelling MM romance that feels both fresh and deeply personal. The dynamic between Tek and Carey drew me in from the very first page. Tek's guarded nature contrasted beautifully with Carey's sunshine-y, flirtatious personality, exemplifying the grumpy x sunshine trope perfectly. It felt realistic and heartfelt, especially seeing Tek's vulnerability beneath his tough exterior and how Carey gently but persistently broke through his defenses. What truly stood out was the theme of abandonment and the longing for belonging, which resonates strongly throughout the book. Their connection, born from complex past relationships and fraught family ties, made their slow-burning romance potent and emotional. The forbidden aspect, coupled with the best friend's brother trope, added a layer of delicious tension that kept me hooked. As someone who appreciates layered characters in romance, I loved Tek's oddly specific fixation that the review mentioned—it brought a unique and intimate feel to their relationship. The absence of kissing but high emotional and sensual tension was an interesting narrative choice that made the story feel authentic and built anticipation masterfully. Additionally, the overlapping timeline with the series' first book provided clarity and depth, enriching the backstory without requiring prior reading. The "I Love Jin" conversation reveal was an especially satisfying moment that tied narrative threads together wonderfully. From a personal perspective, I found myself eagerly rushing home to indulge in their story and feeling a bittersweet pang as it neared the end—exactly the hallmark of a strong romance read. If you're a fan of MM romance, particularly with elements of forbidden love, slow burn passion, and emotional depth, "Paralyze" is definitely worth your time. And if the brothers-best-friend trope appeals to you, JJ Asher's storytelling will not disappoint. Plus, Kindle Unlimited availability makes it easy to dive in! Overall, the combination of sweet, kinky, and heartfelt romance with real emotional stakes made this an engaging and memorable read that I would happily recommend to romance lovers seeking something both tender and thrilling.
