Jurassic Park OCs

As a huge fan of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World sagas, one of my favorite things to do is imagine my own original characters (OCs) within that incredible universe. It’s not just about drawing cool dinosaurs; it's about giving them a backstory that feels authentic to the world Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton built. When I started sketching No-Arm, my T-Rex OC, I wanted him to tell a story through his very appearance. The idea of a male T-Rex, scarred from countless battles with other dinosaurs and even a human shotgun, immediately made him a compelling figure in my mind. He’s not your average genetically engineered park resident; he's a survivor, a true apex predator who’s seen it all. Creating a T-Rex OC like No-Arm, with his distinctive battle wounds, allowed me to explore the harsher, untamed side of Isla Nublar. I pictured him as a dominant force, perhaps even a rival to some of the famous dinosaurs we've seen. His 'no-arm' moniker came from imagining a particularly brutal encounter, emphasizing his resilience despite his injuries. This kind of detailed character concept really brings the Jurassic World fanart to life, making you wonder about the battles he fought and the challenges he overcame. Then there's Penelope, my sweet Triceratops OC. She’s a stark contrast to No-Arm. As a small, unharmed female Triceratops, orphaned and wild-born, she represents the more vulnerable, yet equally resilient, side of the island's ecosystem. I love thinking about how an orphaned dinosaur like Penelope would navigate a world filled with creatures like the T-Rex, or even a velociraptor OC. Her story highlights the natural life cycles and struggles that happen outside the park's main attractions, reminiscent of the natural history aspects explored in the Jurassic Park book characters. It's not just about the big, scary monsters; it's also about the intricate lives of all dinosaurs in Jurassic Park 1 and beyond. Developing these characters also makes me think about other potential OC ideas. What about a 'malosaurus' – a fictional hybrid I’ve been brainstorming – or even a 'dinosaur king oc' inspired by other media, but firmly rooted in the JP lore? The possibilities are endless when you consider the rich history of the Jurassic Park theme park and the exciting new additions like the Jurassic World Legacy Collection. It's all about finding that balance between the familiar and the fresh, creating dinosaurs that could genuinely exist alongside Blue or even the original cast members like Ellie Sattler.
