... Read moreHey fellow nursing students! I totally get how overwhelming nursing school can be. There's so much to learn, from complex concepts to endless medications. That's why I've found that having a solid set of nursing cheat sheets makes all the difference for staying organized and feeling prepared. I'm excited to share some of the topics these little gems cover and how they've helped me along the way. One of the most crucial skills we develop is a thorough, systematic nursing assessment. My cheat sheets break down each body system, covering everything from neurological checks, eyes, neck, chest/lungs, abdomen, to legs, with specific assessment points for each area. Knowing what to look for, like abnormal breathing patterns or interpreting the Glasgow Coma Scale, can really help you stay organized during clinicals. And of course, mastering normal vital signs is foundational—they're often the first clue to a patient's changing condition! Pharmacology can be a real beast! I rely on my cheat sheets that simplify complex drug categories. They've helped me understand various insulin types, remember common drug antidotes, and keep track of therapeutic drug levels. Having quick access to a dosage conversion chart is also incredibly important for medication safety during a med pass. Learning about cardiac medication can be particularly challenging, so a dedicated guide for that has been a lifesaver, helping me quickly recall key information without getting lost in my textbook. Beyond assessments and meds, certain key medical concepts just need to be readily available. My notes on the nervous system, clearly differentiating between sympathetic ('fight or flight') and parasympathetic ('rest and digest') functions, complete with neurotransmitters and receptors, have been invaluable. And those medical triads? Things like Cushing's triad (for increased intracranial pressure), Charcot's, Beck's, and Virchow's – they might seem daunting, but a quick reference makes them manageable for exams and clinical scenarios. We also covered ABGs and an acid-base mnemonic, which is super helpful for understanding patient labs and metabolic imbalances. Whether you're prepping for a big exam like the TEAS or just trying to keep up with med surg content, these nursing cheat sheets are fantastic resources. For pediatric nursing assessment, I adapt my general assessment guide to include age-specific considerations, ensuring I cover all the unique developmental milestones. And for electrolytes, while not on every single sheet, I often add a dedicated section because they’re so fundamental to patient care and understanding fluid balance. Remember, these aren't just for rote memorization; they're tools to build your understanding and confidence in clinical practice. Keep them handy, review them often, and you'll feel much more prepared for whatever nursing school throws your way! What are your favorite cheat sheet topics that have helped you?
