MONOCHROME STYLING DO’s & DON’Ts
We’ve all been there! It’s 7:45 a.m. and your room is covered in clothes, but you still have nothing to wear! An easy way to still make it to your 8 a.m. on time, look stylish, and keep your sanity, is centering your outfit around one color! Monochromatic looks have been around for years now! Even if you’re just throwing on black joggers and a black hoodie, one-color looks can go wrong quickly! So without further ado, let’s analyze monochromatic style and set apart the do’s and don'ts, so you can rock this look the right way!
Don’ts
#1 pair all black outfit
Often with this trend, people go too heavy and they lose the fashionable sense in the outfit! Especially with all black looks, breaking up the color is a necessity! This could be done with either a white top, or showing some skin! Wearing the same shade head-to-toe can make you appear shorter! So no to pairing an all black outfit, instead go for white pieces to go with the black outfit!
#2 black and white pairing
This is a trend mostly everyone has tried, breaking black and white with pops of red! Pairing a black and white outfit is not a good way to wear a monochrome outfit! It will look super boring and not stylish at all! Some even add a pop of colour like neon orange, lime green to the outfit but it will still not be suitable for a monochromatic outfit!
#3 Match your pops with your accessories
Don't get carried away and match your pops of colour to your bag, jewellery and shoes at the same time! Let the pop remain just that, a pop! Accessories, shoes, a hair band, a bag, or a lip colour are the choicest picks! It will only make you look unstylish!
Do’s
#1 Play with textures
When you want a serious monochromatic look without shades or hues, play with textures! So, mix cotton and suede, or jersey and lace or crochet with silk! For instance, when you do an all grey, you can do a sequined top with pleated grey pants in a jersey or viscose material or wear cotton pants with a silk blouse and a weave jacket!
#2 Slightly variations of shades
What you wanna wear is colours that are just slight variations in shades! For instance, wear a fuschia pink with a shade lighter because it’s the easiest way to have a monochrome outfit! The contrast between the two shades has to be evident for it to work! So you can choose different shades from one colour and combine it together! Keep this in mind ladies!
#3 Have fun with neutral colours
It’s really easy when styling a monochromatic look to break out all your beige, white, or black pieces! Neutrals are easy to pair together! Some of the best monochromatic looks are done with neutral colors! Just make sure you have fun with your styling! This is the easiest way to style a monochrome outfit by using neutral colours!
Neutral buat kita nampak kemas dan ‘expensive’ tanpa nampak over. Tekstur pula memang kunci utama bila main gaya monokromatik. Kalau kau sendiri selalu rasa outfit monokrom nampak bosan, cuba tweak tiga benda ni: mainkan tona, tekstur dan potongan (cutting) baju.
