DO’s & DON’Ts when wearing leggings
We all love to wear leggings because they're seriously versatile, whether for summer or winter! You can substitute them for pants or tights! But we have also all seen some of the epic leggings fails that are out there! So what are the Do’s and Don’ts of legging wearing that will guarantee you a flattering outfit rather than a fail? Read below ladies!
Don’ts
#1 Wear flesh/skin toned or light-colored leggings
Not only can they be mistaken for naked legs, but they are also unflattering and usually see-through! Which is another DON'T that probably deserved a bullet point of its own! Because you wanna make sure your leggings are thick enough to cover you and your unmentionables, as well! You might have really cute underwear, but we don't want to see it!
#2 Wear for formal occasion
While I am a firm believer that leggings are pants, I also believe there are times when they might not be appropriate! I shy away from wearing leggings anywhere near a professional environment! I think they work well under a skirt or a dress, but not as a "replacement" for pants! Leggings worn as pants are not for office attire!
#3 Wear leggings that are too small
There's no good reason for you to wear leggings that are so low cut or tight they exaggerate or create a "muffin top"! Plus, wearing leggings that don't fit can make them see-through, which as discussed earlier, is never a good thing! You are worth investing in a great quality, perfect fit, just for your pair of leggings!
Do’s
#1 Pair your leggings with a loose top
Flowy tops that won't cling are usually more flattering and will keep your outfit from looking cheap! Oversized shirts, sweaters, and jackets work well, just remember there is a difference between oversize and too big! Steer clear of wearing a fitted top with your leggings!
#2 Cover your assets
When styling your leggings, tunic-style shirts and shorter dresses are a great choice! I know I'm a bit conservative, but for me, if the top doesn't cover where a zipper would be, I consider the shirt too short! Plus you will look more classy and appropriate!
#3 Wear as your base
Wear leggings as a base and use layers to complete your look! It's easy to get a little lazy when it comes to leggings! I mean, after all- one of the best things about them is how easy they are to wear! You can look pulled together and still be comfy by purposefully adding pieces to your outfit! Pair a tunic with your leggings and add a kimono, try an oversized sweater and a cute denim jacket, or a long tee with a cable-knit cardigan and converse...there are endless options!
Satu benda yang aku perasan bila tulis pasal fesyen, ramai juga yang keliru dengan tulisan legging yang benar. Ada yang tulis “legging”, ada yang tulis “legging’s”, ada juga yang tulis “leggings” dan “leggingg” entah dari mana datang satu lagi huruf g tu. Dalam bahasa Melayu harian, kita biasa pinjam perkataan Inggeris. Untuk pakaian ini, ejaan asal dalam bahasa Inggeris ialah “leggings” (ada huruf s di hujung) sebab ia merujuk kepada sejenis seluar ketat yang dipakai berpasangan, sama macam “jeans”. Tapi bila kita guna dalam ayat Melayu, dua bentuk yang paling biasa dan paling selamat ialah: 1. **legging** – bila kita cakap secara umum - Contoh: "Aku suka pakai *legging* hitam bila keluar lepak." - Contoh: "Do’s and Don’ts pakai *legging* yang kena semua orang tahu." 2. **leggings** – bila kita tulis dalam konteks lebih ‘Inggeris’ (contoh: kapsyen campur BM+BI, atau tajuk gaya fesyen) - Contoh: "My favourite black *leggings* dari brand sports tu memang selesa gila." Yang kurang tepat tapi selalu orang tersilap guna: - **"legging’s"** – tanda apostrophe ( ’s ) ini biasanya untuk menunjukkan pemilikan dalam bahasa Inggeris (contoh: *the legging’s color*), bukan untuk jamak. Dalam konteks BM biasa kita tak perlu apostrophe pun. - Tambah huruf tak perlu, contohnya "leggingg", "legin" dan sebagainya. Bila tulis artikel, blog atau kapsyen panjang, aku sendiri akan pilih satu gaya dan guna secara konsisten, contohnya kekalkan **“legging”** sahaja dalam semua ayat BM supaya nampak kemas. Kalau nak tekankan ejaan Inggeris yang asal, boleh tulis sekali awal-awal macam ni: "legging (Inggeris: *leggings*)" dan selepas itu kekalkan satu bentuk sahaja. Contoh ayat penuh dalam gaya UGC: - "Sejak tahu cara pakai *legging* yang betul, aku dah jarang sangat salah pilih top. Kuncinya, pilih *legging* yang tak jarang dan padankan dengan baju longgar yang tutup aset." - "Dalam post ni, aku bukan saja share Do’s & Don’ts pakai *legging*, tapi aku betulkan sekali penulisan *legging* yang benar untuk korang yang suka tulis review atau caption OOTD." Jadi, bila next time korang nak kongsi tip macam cara pilih legging hitam yang tak jarang, cara mix & match dengan kemeja longgar atau blazer, boleh je tulis dengan yakin. Pilih satu bentuk – **"legging"** atau **"leggings"** – dan guna dengan konsisten. Yang penting, kandungan kita jelas, senang dibaca, dan orang lain pun faham apa yang kita maksudkan bila cakap pasal gaya harian dengan legging.
