For my solar powered friends ☺️☀️
I know many of you, like me, feel a deep connection to the sun's energy – we're truly 'solar-powered' beings! That's why I get so excited when the days start getting longer. Hearing that in just 46 days, the sun will set after 7pm is absolutely huge for my mood and overall well-being. It's like a countdown to more joy and vitality! For those of us who tend to feel the dip during shorter, darker days, learning to truly 'harness' that incoming sunlight is a game-changer. It's not just about brighter evenings; it's about optimizing our exposure to natural light throughout the day to positively impact our mood, energy levels, and even sleep patterns. Here are a few ways I'm planning to make the most of these upcoming longer days, and I hope they inspire you too: Morning Light Rituals: The first thing I do when I wake up, even before coffee, is open my blinds wide. Getting that natural light exposure within the first hour of waking helps regulate my circadian rhythm, signaling to my body that it's daytime. Sometimes I even step outside for 10-15 minutes, just to soak it in. It makes a noticeable difference in my energy throughout the morning. Outdoor Breaks are Non-Negotiable: During my workday, I make it a point to step outside, even for just 15-20 minutes. Whether it's a quick walk around the block or just sitting on a bench to eat lunch, that mid-day dose of natural light is crucial. It's especially important as we transition into evenings with later sunsets – it encourages me to actually use that extra daylight! Creating 'Light-Filled' Spaces: I've noticed how much difference a brightly lit room makes. I've rearranged my workspace to be near a window, and I use sheer curtains to let in as much natural light as possible. Even simple things like cleaning windows can make a big impact on how much light streams in. Embracing Evening Activities: With the sun setting after 7 PM, it opens up so many possibilities! I'm looking forward to evening walks, gardening, or even just enjoying a cup of tea on my patio without it being pitch black. This extra daylight truly extends the 'active' part of my day and helps me unwind differently than just being indoors. Understanding Your Body's Needs: If you're someone who experiences seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or just generally feels low when daylight is scarce, actively seeking out and appreciating the sun becomes even more important. While light therapy lamps can be helpful, nothing quite beats the real thing. Think of it as truly 'harnessing' the sun's natural benefits for your mental and physical health. It's amazing how much a simple shift in daylight can affect us. I encourage you to think about how you can consciously welcome more sunlight into your life as these brighter evenings approach. Let's all become better at harnessing the sun's incredible power together!
